Cheesy Italian pop is my biggest musical guilty pleasure, I admit... I love it. My mom introduced me to the singers of the 1960s when I was a kid--so many of the great American hits of that era were adaptations from Italian originals--and by the time I was a teenager in the 90s, I had a collection spanning three decades.

Is anyone else here a fan?

Emilio Pericoli - Al di la

Ugh, this song tugs at my heart... My parents love it. They would sometimes play music after dinner and just dance by themselves. This was one of the songs they would play. It will always make me think of them in each other's arms.

(God am, in a sappy mood today or what?)

    Umberto Tozzi - Stella Stai

I may or may not have done my first and last lip-sync performance to this song... At age four or five... In front of my mom's friends... icon_redface.gif

I have to admit all the Italian singers I know about are the ones who became popular in Spanish-speaking countries like Laura Pausini, Nek, Eros Ramazzotti, et al, although most of them became popular in the '90s.

Out of that group I really only like Laura Pausini. However, I prefer most of her music in Italian. Not that her Spanish songs aren't shabby!

Umberto Tozzi sang about this crazy bitch before Laura Branigan did. His lyrics are less dark, though. They're actually kind of romantic...

LOL! This is good stuff. It's a good distraction. I've been obsessed with lots of Ellen videos lately, so I need a change of pace.

I liked Ramazzotti. Nek was kinda sexy. Pausini... I don't know... I always found her kinda depressing.

Hah! My friend here in Tuscaloosa is Romanian. Give me some names. I'll ask if she knows them (she was born there, but grew up here, so she might not be all that familiar).

    Cool! I'll ask her.

(Incidentally, after this post I'll only need four more to hit 1,000. Ramazotti, Nek and Pausini have me covered. icon_lol.gif )
