How many is too many?

Lately I've noticed that many guys who are in my age group have sexually been with a shocking number of guys (in my opinion). The last guy I was talking to had been with more than 20 guys and he's only 22 years old. Is this pretty standard? I found it to be a HUGE turn off, but maybe it's something I just need to get over. What do you guys think is a good number of guys to have slept with for people in their early 20s? Does this bother anyone else or should I just be happy if someone is STD free?

This isn't meant to offend anyone, I just want to know what the typical gay man thinks and get an average of what I should expect lol.

Meh, I think he was about average. Most guys anyways will probably lower their number if you ask them out of fear or rejection of embarrassment. My number was probably about the same at that age....

Personally I think it's all based on preference.
If you like casual sex, and have had dozens of partners, you can't be hypocritical towards others that do the same.
Same coin different side, if you see sex as something more special and only engage in it with LTR partners, it seems natural that you be attracted to those with similar views.
-All depends on what you're looking for. If you want a fun NSA night, someone that does it often (but is safe about it) might be your best bet. If you're looking for a loyal boyfriend who you won't have trust issues with, you might be safe to choose someone who hasn't slept with the whole football team, and their brothers, etc.

Edit: I'm 21, and much more relationship oriented, I've slept with 4 men, 3 of which I was dating seriously. My most recent was a random hookup, and a lot of fun.

Hmmm. I came out at 16 and had two partners before that. And by 20 had maybe slept with a total of 6-7 guys.

I'm a bit older than you and from what I hear and read the higher number of partners is not just a gay thing but more the result of a "hook up" rather than "date" culture.

I think as long as someone your interested in is honest, STD free and respectful, you shouldn't let it be a barrier.

Ah! What you're asking is basically, "What is the definition of 'Promiscuous'?"

"Promiscuous" is anybody who is having more sex than the person making the judgement.

I personally don't care how many guys a potential dude has slept with. Some are just more active or have had more opportunities than others. I figure what's in his past is the past; we're focusing on the present and potential future.

What if you were a total slut when you were younger, but stopped having sex when you matured? Does that even things out? icon_neutral.gif

So would it be safe to say that a guy who hasn't had much sex would be looked at less fondly than a guy who has had tons of sex? In theory the guy who's had more sex should be better in bed..

Uh no, not at all icon_exclaim.gif

Honestly, you can't assume anything about a guy based on how many he's slept with. It's not at all an indicator of how skilled he is in bed.

I think if you're 20-ish, and you've slept with 100 guys, that's too many, but I don't judge others, so it's not like I would be OMG he slept with 100 guys, STONE HIM! I don't care, I don't want my number to go any higher, so I'm just not gonna sleep with anyone unless I'm in a LTR, or the guy is really hot or I'm really into him but no more sleeping-with-guys-I'd-be-embarrassed-to-be-seen-with-because-I'm-too-horny icon_razz.gif
