It was definitely the Asian to blame, especially if they were one of millions of transfer students at UW. They have no concept of space or distance. Yes I am racist. /don'tcare

Wait was she at least .08 Asian?

She was very much Asian. Not sure if full or mixed, but at least half. She seemed disoriented (shockerrrrrrrrrrr)

Perhaps her disorientation was due to the fact that she hadn't seen a "Frosted Flake" before...haha jk.

Glad you're ok and I kind of agree, depending on whether she is an american and used to our driving laws or from the far east, her lack of clarity might have been a factor.

Also, she had two white guys with her in the car. Why wasn't one of them driving?! And, better question - why wasn't she making them food?

There are several universities in that area, including Seattle's own city U, and they do have a heavy Asian student presence. But Asians are well represented in many other aspects of Seattle-area life (I lived there 5 years). Interestingly they seemed not as numerous in the gay community, however.

As for driving skills, Asian women in Seattle are popularly recognized for having terrible driving skills, and all my friends would be extra-careful driving downtown if they saw an Asian woman behind the wheel (the men not much better). It largely seems to be a matter of inattentiveness, and a poor awareness of their surroundings on the road. I don't know if that's a cultural thing, and how they were taught to drive.

Glad FrostedFlakes was not hurt. I wonder if it was a case of changing lanes or turning without looking nor signaling, the most common hazards I used to encounter myself with them.

    LMFAO!

This made my morning! Glad you're ok!

My mom was rear-ended yesterday afternoon in my Xterra. Normally, she drives her CTS but since my bro and I had just driven and were tired as hell she took my truck. I'm pissed about my truck because the ass took a close up of the damage and I'm like:
    Me: "Really?!"
Lady's Husband: "It's just the light, sir." (Mind you he's wearing a mangers shirt for the local Chevy dealership.)

I take a picture from the bigger vantage point showing everything and reply, "Tell the whole picture, not just what's convient."

Had my mom go to the hospital cause her blood pressure was going up and she was complaining of pain and discomfort. Meh douche bag. Accidents suck for everyone but I really dispise how people can try and minimize at others expense. What the hell happened to just doing the right thing?

I saw an elder Asian woman driving a full sized SUV while drinking a Starbucks and talking on her cell phone.

I immediately pulled off the road as far as I could.

I have to admit. Alot of Asians, particularly females, are horrible drivers. I was in the car with my friend and had to tell her "you're driving in the middle of two lanes" and she responded with "oh yeah." wtf?!?

Good thing we make tons of money to afford car insurance and to pay off people. Imagine other ethnicities being bad drivers. Oh man you're fucked.

Do a lot of Asian women have trouble driving? You mean it isn't just a cruel stereotype?

Driving in a tunnel in the right hand lane, I noticed a huge Buick slowly passing me on my left. As the Buick was about side by side with me I glanced over and saw a middle aged Asian woman driving - sitting forward with both hands on her wheel. Just as she was about even with me I saw her yank her wheel to the right, thus slamming into my car big time. My whole left side was smashed in. There was no place for me to dive to the side or shoulder - being in a tunnel. There was nothing in front of the lady (like a deer or slowing car, animal, bicyclist - nothing at all). We both stopped at the side of the road just outside the tunnel. I got out on my right side, since my left door was no longer operable. I approached her car - she just sat there looking ashamed. I knocked on her window and asked her why the Hell she did that. Her answer: "I not know." Thankfully, she had State Farm full coverage, since my costs were about $3,000. WTF would anyone slam into a car like that? No reason to do what she did. My car was never truly correct again, so it was traded off.

So, today we'll be learning about the role socialization plays in skill learning.
People who come from a culture of driving are better drivers than people who don't come from a culture of driving.

Most first and second generation Asians in North America (and Europe to some degree) are probably the first drivers in their family. For instance, My family has lived in America since 1697(mom's) and 1821(dad's) and my great grandparents on both sides were the first drivers in my family. They have shared their knowledge, experience, and history of driving down through oral traditions and photographs to me...a pretty good driver (no accidents or tickets since 17).

The Asian drivers that you encounter while driving, as well as other immigrants (Mexican driving skills are also derided here in Arizona) may be the first drivers in their families. This means that they are starting from a completely blank slate as Asian nations often have strong urban infrastructure and when they do drive it is often men doing the driving due to cultural norms. Just like the entrepreneur who believes he made his fortune with no outside help is overlooking the free education, infrastructure and stability that he received from the government; we don't pay attention to the valuable role that cultural traditions and socialization play in learning.

While the bad Asian driver is a fun and lasting trope in American culture it is not necessary as simple as that. Our brains naturally inflate the number of bad Asian drivers we encounter because we discount other bad drivers and focus on the Asian ones.

Also, hope you guys are ok and that the woman who hit you loses her license. :-)
