Black Friday In Calif.: Pepper Spray, Body Found, Shooting, Stabbing

    http://www.ksbw.com/news/29857317/detail.html#ixzz1em17ireh

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Despite a shooting, stabbing, finding a dead body in a fountain, and pepper spraying, Black Friday shoppers across California powered on and did not let crowds and chaos get in their way of snagging deals.

Chains such as Target, Best Buy and Kohl's opened their doors at midnight and some overly aggressive shoppers arrived with sharp elbows and even weapons.

One male shopper was stabbed outside the Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento. The stabbing stemmed from a fight between two groups of shoppers at 3 a.m. in front of Macy's, which opened at midnight offering post-Thanksgiving bargains.

Shopper Richard Swift told KCRA-TV that the argument involved three men. Swift said it started when a man made a comment about the females with the other group. The victim was taken to the hospital and the two suspects fled.
The stabbing did not interrupt shopping activity at the Arden Fair Mall.

Meanwhile, in San Leandro, a Black Friday shopper is in critical condition after being shot by armed robbers outside a Walmart store.

The victim and his family were walking to their car at 1:45 a.m. when they were confronted by a group of men who demanded their purchases. When the family refused, a fight broke out and one of the robbers pulled out a gun and shot the man, San Leandro police Sgt. Mike Sobek said.

"It looks like he's going to live," Sobek said. "The suspects saw these guys, got out of their car and tried to rob them but were unsuccessful."

During the fracas, other family members wrestled down one of the four robbers, Tony Phillips, 20, police said. Phillips was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide and attempted robbery.

The Walmart parking lot was crowded with Black Friday shoppers when gunfire erupted.

Down in Los Angeles, one woman went to extremes when she shot pepper spray to keep shoppers from merchandise she wanted during a Black Friday sale, and 20 people suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

http://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/local/Customer-Tasered-Black-Friday-video-games-134494493.htmlA line of customers waiting to get pre-Black Friday deals on video games got a bit out of control, according to police. An 11-year-old boy was knocked to the ground by the crowd around 10 p.m. Thursday night, according to police. The boy's father, who tried to help his son to his feet, was confronted by Brian Shellnutt in line, police said.

Another customer came to the aid of the father and son, when Shellnutt, 26, punched the helpful customer, according to police. Shellnutt continued to hit the customer even after officers arrived at the store at 1365 Boston Post Road, police said.

Cops used a taser on Shellnutt and took him into custody. He was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace and risk of injury to a minor. Shellnutt will be in court Dec. 13.

Who are these people? I've never met anyone who has gotten up at the crack of dawn to shop with massive crowds in hopes of getting something at one of these sales. You can buy the stuff online before the store even opens and not have to wait in a crowd or line.

Plain crazy and I'll pay retail before ever thinking of doing this.

It's probably the same people who line up to buy the first iPhone and see the 1st prequel to Star Wars, among other things.icon_lol.gif

On the other hand, these are probably the same people who survive a nuclear disaster or alien invasion.icon_eek.gif

Most of these people are just in it to resell the items and make a small profit. That's why they're so amped up. If they don't get their merchandise, then they lose out on the chedda.

I know, but somehow when I was typing earlier, the phrase "this is EXACTLY what Jesus had in mind before he decided to pay the Virgin Mary's womb a visit" didn't seem to work right in my mind. icon_cool.gif
