One of the local community papers in my area has a pets section that has been helpful getting pets adopted and getting contributions for animals with special needs, often expensive medical treatments. I just wanted to share this so that if your local papers don't already do something similar, you might give them the idea. Very worthwhile.

Donations to benefit Little Miss Daisy
Daisy is a sweet 1-1/2-year-old Yorkie with an acute neurological disorder. She could not stand, walk or even eat when rescued from the shelter. Since being in a foster home and receiving medical treatment from a neurologist, she is able to hold her head up, walk (with an altered gait) and eat. She weighs 2-1/2 pounds and has improved remarkably. With continued care and medication, she will soon be looking for a “forever” home.

    Tripod needs a little help
Carol Murphy, a Manhattan Beach resident, came across a kitten that had been run over by a car in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant.

This is a good idea. I wish more cities were proactive in helping animals. I'm pretty happy I just got to donate several pieces of artwork to our local SPCA for one of their fundraisers.

+1 great idea. In my area, we have a HUGE problem with people just abandoning animals. Homeless dogs just show up on your property looking for food and care on a regular basis. Breaks my heart because you cant take them all in (even though i would like to). icon_cry.gif
