Hey guys I was just sitting in the chatroom cause I was curious to see who goes in there to chat and a thought came to me...

Is there a difference between the guys who post and the guys who chat. I know there's regulars in both places but do they do both, I mean do they post and chat as well, or is it a split between regulars in both places?

I don't know but it'd be an interesting research project! icon_wink.gif Why can't we make polls on here? I noticed that guys in the chat are not usually chatting about sex...but it seems like you gotta have a cam. to be popular in there! haha!

I use to go into the forums. But it seemed a little too click-y. Its like high school all over again. Half of the time people are talking about things that dont concern or interest me anyway. I perfer the forums

Well, the chat rooms provide a more immediate kind of engagement whereas the forums allow you a more thought-out discourse. So perhaps it depends on a user's mood or preference. Some days idle chat to pass the time will suffice. Other days you like to chew on the often...resplendent and yet obtuse musings you can find in the forums.

I hang out in the chat room during the daytime at work, and post in forums occasionally, but I find myself spending more time in the chat room. The regulars there are a great set of guys who are great to get immediate feedback from- there's no guarantee if you post something in the forums that someone will actually respond, but in the chat room you can have the same sort of dialogues that exist in the forum, at a much faster rate. I find that the chat room keeps me on my toes when I'm debating someone, because I have to be able to defend anything I say immediately, and not take hours to cogitate to defend or respond to any position. Sex talk does happen, but it's not like it doesn't take place here either. Having a cam there is the same as being verified on the forums, and even if you don't, people will still talk to you, once you engage them in the proper manner (not rude, disrespectful, or making untoward sexual advances). The friends I have from the chat room know more about me than anyone from the forums (with one notable exception, http://www.realjock.com/profile/?id=135893) and I feel more comfortable talking to someone who I can see face to face, albeit from a large distance.

I didnt know there were chat rooms. Honestly.

Ok, I just peeked. Didnt look very interesting.

I guess I like the forums cuz you do get a chance for a more indepth discussion.

Is there a difference between the guys who chat and the guys who post? I honestly don't know... I like the forums, but I am more of a chat room guy just because I like conversation versus just reading. I even like talking on the phone at work more than I like emails... just my personality. I tend to meet more people and make more friends that way. Also, it's rare that someone writes to me (or I to them) to say "Oh, I really liked what you posted on the forum..." or even "You know, I disagree with what you posted on the forum..." So, that's my $.02.

Wow, haven't been in a chatroom in years. Don't have a need to yet. IMing is the way to for me. I know everyone I need to know, and posting on forums is a better way of conveying my ideas and beliefs. I'm still for the "old fashioned" approach, and prefer to meet people face to face in public places. Somehow with all it's advances and millions of people online, the internet doens't seem to ever have that option for connecting fully with another person no matter how many words are said, or what setting we meet on.

the chat room here is not about sex. it can get sexy sometime, but sex is forbidden by the mods (are there actual mods?).

mostly it's just guys chatting about whatever...and teasing remi...who is really hot, btw.

I go into chat when I get bored with the forum topics. ya gotta keep on top of your game if you're really gonna play though...or you can sit back and just watch. it can be fun sometime to see who burns who.

and you're right, WesElixir...you do need a cam to be "popular" in there...though you are not expected to get naked on it (phx).

Some of us bridge both worlds. Though I have not been chatting as much as I used to. There are some great guys there who I keep in touch with outside of RJ. Its a lot easier to connect when you have a web cam. Plus you can catch a glimpse of Lawson's ass on a good day icon_twisted.gif

    i go both ways.

and i like em both. it's fairly different. also, as yale has said, there are different feels in the chat to different times of the day like any kind of social gathering... and no LoLCatz.

I go into both but def am more active on the forums. I feel like the forums providean avenue to give insightful responses to things people are going through or questions people have whereas the chat room comes across as a place to just hang. it also seems a little difficult to break into. i feel like everyone there has a good repore with each other, are friends, so there will be convos going on that i am hesitant to join just because they seem personal, even though they are in a public forum.

    Me three.

I feel like such a virgin.

Well, I check out the site from work mostly, since I have movies, games, chores, and such when I get home. So, I rarely have time for the chats.

The chat room is its own beast. I've met a lot of great guys there and yeah I definitely feel "closer" to the guys I have spent time with in the chat room than forum regulars. The chat room itself is breezy in nature but often leads to more substantive chats in private.

The other great thing about the chat room: where else can you hear Colm_of_Dublin's comedic genius in real time?

Also, the chat room pretty much never collapses into the kinds of fights and squabbles that have been so rampant on the forums these days.

I've noticed that different times of the day has different people in there and yeah it is quite fast paced room. I just wanted to know what others thought on this. Cause I've noticed a few regulars on here in the forums and they can respond quite fast as well but it seems the thought is more well thought out in most cases.

Like this response for example wouldn't have gotten out until the subject had changed. Everyone types in a few words, seems nothing is really thought out. I don't know maybe they were having a light banter day. icon_cool.gif
