I am ecstatic after hearing the news that Nickelodeon has started working on the sequel to "Avatar: The Last Airbender". Although the movie was a disappointment for many, the animated series was quite good (especially the 3rd/final season). I'm hoping that the new series will be equally spectacular. From the trailer (watch it on youtube), I think we are in for a treat. [This post sounds suspiciously like a commercial.]

I'm loving how the producers evolved the world and the greater political context in which this series will take place. I've heard it's going to be decidedly darker in tone than the first series. Can't wait!

I'm not sure I like that it looks like it is taking place in like, modern times. . .and I will probably miss the original characters too much to get into this one.

The second series takes place 70 years after the War in the first series. It's not as if the events of TLA are ancient history per se. If it makes you feel any better, many of the characters in the upcoming series are direct descendants of the first characters. The new Avatar will learn Airbending from Aang's son, the metalbending police force of Republic City (the main setting) is led by Toph's daughter, etc. The big statue in the trailer is of Aang (as an adult).

Here's the Last Airbender wiki entry they have for the upcoming series if anyone's interested in the story and context of it...

I'm soooooo hoping they don't eff up the legacy left by the first series, but judging by the trailer, that's not likely. I only discovered the series after it had finished, but I downloaded all the seasons and couldn't get enough. I think i finished all the episodes in about a week.
The one thing the trailer doesn't show is the comedy though. I found that was a great part of the original series (even if it was mostly pretty childish).
    Regardless, can't wait for this

I'm definitely looking forward to this!

I wonder if they'll ever explain what happened to Zuko's mother.

I need to know more about her, I love her compassion for Zuko and pity towards Azula

What I like is how things are reversed for Korra. Aang was an Avatar who mastered Airbending, but had to master the other 3 elements. This time, Korra mastered Fire, Water, and Earthbending, but has to master Air. Can't wait for the new series.!

Watching this gave me goosebumps icon_biggrin.gif I think it's going to be good, but the old characters will be missed. I think a 100 year old Sokka appearing would be funny though haha icon_razz.gif

If the writers are the same, it should be awesome. They were merciless.
