This will be my first NYE in the city in many years and I am hoping you guys can suggest some fun things to do. I will be hanging out with my best friend and we have already agreed to stay away from Times Square. So, with all of the parties and clubs having events and not really knowing the city very well a few recommendations would be great. Also, if you have any other cool ideas other than the typical dinner, club, drink, massive hangover option. That would be great too. Thanks!

That could be a cool idea. I would need some help though as I am in NC.

HAHAHA that´s funny, because I'm moving to Vancouver next week, but I was thinking to pass the Christmas or NYE in NYC. I never visit canada before, and never was in New York City too. But how my friend - who lives in NYC - will not be there, and she will be here in Brazil with her family during December, I just gave up of that idea, coz I don´t want to be in NYC alone and for the first time, I could be lost.

A party with everybody from RJ should be a great idea and incentive. icon_lol.gif

Times Square the morning of December 31st, particularly on a weekday, could be interesting (depending on your definition of "interesting").

Ten years ago I worked on Times Square and the view from my desk out my office window looked out onto a roof and flagpole that other than seeming so close that you could touch them were so innocuous I'd have to tell visitors that it was where the ball dropped. The only night of the year I couldn't work late was New Years Eve because building security cleared us out early. If they didn't, can you imagine the parties we'd have held? What I always found most interesting would be walking to the office every December 31st morning and watching oblivious (or jaded) pedestrian hordes sidestep, walk around, ignore and otherwise miss the significance of a giant number 2 standing unattended on the sidewalk, waiting to be hoisted up onto the roof as part of the year that flashes once the ball drops. Only In New York!

@eager, good call. I had not considered doing some day time people watching up there. I kinda just figured it would just be a disaster all around. The last time I went was in college about 7 years ago and a friend got us kicked out of the area for being too drunk. It was only about 2pm by that point.
