I think any fear is treatable if the person wants to be treated.

No more than your common racism or religious war fanaticism is... after it's a belief, not a disease. Sure it may be created within our minds, but that alone cannot be responsible for the functions in the brain that have created it.

Maybe somehow big brother can fix my dislike Britney and Mariah, and give me a few dozen pills and psychotherapy for that as well. Lol, j/k... I don't want to therapy for my opinions. I want to hear other peoples opinions instead.

Many people lose their homophobia (or irrational fear of homosexuals) after getting to know and becoming friends with a gay or lesbian person. It is like any other prejudice or hatred against a group of people, the more you get to personally know some members of the group the more likely you will befriend some of them. That is why some gay activists are so passionate about people coming out of the closet, it helps combat homophobia.

If there's a cure, I'll definately be first in line to treat my parents... don't know if I'll ever be able to tell them.

It's entirely an education issue. You learn to fear and you learn not to fear.
People who hate and/or fear gays (racial/ethnic groups etc.) have developed that attitude from typically one or both of two situations:
    1. They are taught by people they believe to be authorities (parents, religious leaders, local community etc.) that gays are bad/dangerous/corrupting etc.
    2. They had a bad experience with an individual that they apply to the entire group. These types of experiences could be as severe as violent attacks to far more benign events such as losing a promotion to someone who is gay.

The educational correction needed for this is overwhelming as society which allows this is very slow to change.

Yes. Show them how it feels like to be on the other side. I doubt they'd like it much. On the other hand... some people are just nazis. icon_confused.gif

The history of the term 'homophobia' amazes me. Homosexuality used to be listed as a mental illness in medical texts, but then gay activists created the term homophobia to turn the tables and make dislike of homosexuals sounds like a medical, mental illness like agoraphobia. Quite an accomplishment.

Don't they treat other phobias with some kind of immersion therapy? like if you're scared of spiders they cover you in them...or if you're afraid of snakes they cover you in them.

Treat hot sexy homophobes the same way...we'll all gang bang em.

Warning: this treatment will only work, as mentioned, with HOT SEXY homophobes...ugly yucky ones will have to go on the patch or something...bleh.

see diagram 1 below: (nude guy = recovered homophobe)

Anyone can change, but they have to be willing to do so.

And here I am thinking of locking the person in the room and make him/her listen to Celine Dion for 24 hours non-stop.

That will either drive them crazy or turn them gay. Let us know when the results come out icon_lol.gif
