Be forewarned that your response has to be worded for a technological dummy (me).

Right now, I can configure the various wires so that I can either get dial tone OR an internet connection. I can always get satellite DISH reception.

---There are 2 holes (jacks) in the back of the land line TELEPHONE.
---There are 3 holes (jacks) in the back of the FAX/Printer/Scanner (One is marked, "1-Line," a second one is marked, "EXT," and a third one is marked with a symbol that looks like a bar with a ball on the end of it, with 2 squares below it and one square above it).

    1) Should their be a SPLITTER plugged into the telephone jack (in the wall) with a FILTER plugged into the splitter?
    A) SPLITTER plugged into the wall jack with FILTER plugged into the SPLITTER
    B) FILTER plugged into the wall jack (no SPLITTER)

    2) There are 2 holes (jacks) in the FILTER.
A wire should run from the FILTER hole (marked DSL/HPNA) to
    A) the satellite DISH
    B) the land line TELEPHONE
    C) the FAX/Printer/Scanner
    D) something else

    3) A wire should run from the second FILTER hole (marked PHONE) to
    A) the FAX/Printer/Scanner
    B) the land line TELEPHONE (which has 2 holes (jacks) on the back of it).
    C) something else

    3) A wire should run from the land line TELEPHONE to
    A) the modem
    B) the FAX/Printer/Scanner
    C) something else

OR, is there a different configuration that would give me BOTH a dial tone AND an internet connection ? Previously, all of this was hooked up together (in another room), and everything worked fine, running out of one wall jack.

THANKS for any help that you can give.
Please don't just guess at what the problem might be.

My brain is really tired right now, so forgive me if this is a stupid question. Are you trying to connect all of these devices together? I'm not really clear on what you are trying to do.

Usually these are separate things. Your all-in-one would be connected to your land line. Your phone would connect to your all-in-one. Your wireless router would connect to your Internet connection (cable, DSL, or whatever). Your satellite would be connected through the coax jack.

I accidentally figured it out so that everything seems to be working fine.

    SPLITTER has 2 holes (jacks)
    FILTER has 2 holes (jacks)

--SPLITTER plugged into the phone wall jack
--Wire from the SPLITTER to the Satellite DISH
    --FILTER plugged into the SPLITTER
--Wire from FILTER to the MODEM
--Wire from FILTER to the FAX
--Wire from FAX to land line telephone
--Wire from MODEM to land line telephone

    Ah Lay Loo Yuh !

I still don't understand, but I'm glad you got it figured out.
