Somewhat new to the area... and picking up guys in general.

Just wondering if anyone knows any places in Baltimore to meet cute guys, both daytime and nighttime? Thanks!

Mount Vernon is the "gay district" of sorts. There are also several gay bars/clubs in the city.
Being under 21, I haven't actually been to any clubs in Baltimore, because the ones with college nights are either black/latino oriented or mostly lesbian. I usually go to DC for fun.

Anyway, of the clubs, the two you'll hear about most are Hippo and Grand Central. From what I've heard, Hippo is pretty sleazy across the board, but if you dont mind that kind of thing, theres no reason not to have fun. Grand Central is apparently much less sleazy, but both have their own plusses and minuses. Its pretty much up to you. For the younger crowds, DC is a better place to visit.

Ayyy welcome to the what the benches say is the "Greatest City in America."
    ;)

Yeahh Hippo's sleazy and Grand Central's pretty nice from what I've heard, but aside from that a Sunday at the Baltimore Museum of Art, a table at the City Cafe on Cathedral Street, Artscape (MICA's big street fair in the summer), or bikram yoga on Biddle Street are good places to meet guys but in general Bmore works like this:

    Mount Vernon- gay
    Hampden- hipsters
Reservoir Hill- skinnier hipsters (I blame MICA...)
Canton- bros (pretty sure some gay guys live here too though)
Fells Point- Michael Phelps and even more bros.
    Federal Hill- See Canton.
Anywhere else is probably either office buildings or not all that interesting (see: abandoned haha).

DC is fun though! It's a lot better than Bmore and I always go. Gotta love it haha and there's always Philly.
    Hope that helps icon_smile.gif

I'm flabbergasted as to why there weren't many Black folks on the video. I read about B-More on city-data.com and that's certainly not the image I get reminded of.

Baltimore is awful. Crime is high and the homeless are everywhere. Go hang out in DC. It's only about 1h15m southwest and it has a more educated and culturally enriched night life, not to mention it's a hell of a lot safer.

If you ever need a cab in Baltimore, call ahead. Cabs on the street will pretend like they don't know where you're going if they deem it too far. This is especially true for popular clubbing areas like Fells Point. Be sure not to mix up the numbers of cab companies serving Baltimore City and Baltimore County; they're not the same thing and cabs will rarely transport people between the two.

Never been to Mt. Vernon, but I know it's the gayborhood. You're likely to do well there with guys.

Just a warning, be safe and use common sense. Two separate friends of mine living in Baltimore have had their houses broken into in the past few months, mid day, and they supposedly live in nice areas. Don't mean to scare you, just don't be an idiot. Lock your doors, don't walk around sketchy areas by yourself at night, don't mess with people who look like they might be holding weapons because they probably are (being held at knife point is NOT fun), etc.

Oh, and good luck with the accent. I lived near the city for 18 years and I still can't understand it.

I have a lot to say about Baltimore... mostly negative, but I'll keep the rest of the comments to myself and let you be the judge of it for yourself.

    Have fun and good luck.

I wasn't sure if it was actually Baltimore either. icon_lol.gif

Baltimore is an absolute blast....if you're straight.

The gay scene sucks. Don't get me wrong. There is one, but it's just not too fruitful, no pun intended.

Mt. Vernon, Hippo, and Grand Central are the places to be. But that's just about it.

But, wait, you're married. You might need to rely on sleazy online hookups.

    I lol'd. Kinda true.

Lotta Baltimore hate here. I was stationed in Baltimore a few years ago and loved it, but never got out too often. I think a lot of you guys got sold a bad deal on the city. It's got PLENTY of issues, but it's got some great areas if you give it a chance!

The gay area is nothing to write home about. Hippo is big but kinda sleazy. For being in a big city it seems like a run down gay bar in the south. Grand Central is better, but not much. And unlike DC, there wasn't too much foot traffic when I went (on a Sunday afternoon/evening) I have been a few other times for various reason, and still many places looked dead. There is a bunch of beautiful housing stock, but most of it is run down and abandoned.

I was taking a train from DC to NYC last year and B-More was a stop along the way. I was seriously kinda taken aback by the amount of houses just left to rot away. As the train passed by the bad area, there were literally blocks or abandonded streets. Very sad for a city with so much potential.

Baltimore is about 20-25 years behind DC in terms of how much time it needs to get it's act together....

My older brother lived in Baltimore for about 3 years starting in 2000. I remember him complaining about a lot of things while living there whenever I or our mom talked to him, haha. And needless to say, I was never particularly excited to visit him there. Then he moved to Rockville in early 2003 and has been much happier there ever since. Hell, I would move to Rockville or Bethesda if I could (or Annapolis although that's way out there).

    Baltimore is a great town.
Plenty to do, great character and a realism you won't find in the boat shoe lined, douche bag streets of DC.

Lived in both towns and love DC, but Baltimore has more of a soul, cheaper to live and is beginning to see some significant improvement in crime rates, yuppie type neighborhoods and companies choosing to base and expand operations here. (see Under Armour, TransAmerica)

Lets not forget the waterfront, Inner Harbor and the best ballpark in America (the Os record notwithstanding)

Baltimore has its problems no doubt, but it has more good than bad. Fight through the stereotype and you'll experience a pretty cool urban center.

I mean it ain't Philly...so Baltimore at least has that. Talk about a shit hole.

Anyway, DC can be shallow, impersonal, cold and and seemingly dead inside. Bmore is deeper, has character and its people have texture and depth.

    My 2 cents.

Every time I go to Baltimore I have a good time... I love their art museum and a lot of the neighborhoods are great. Lots of good restaurants, too. icon_smile.gif

Baltimore has a gay scene? icon_eek.gif Who knew. I think it's more like a snapshot. Pretty much agree with the general consensus on this thread. You'll get the most traffic at Central on Fri and Sat. any other day just don't go. Especially if it's third Sat. of the month which is goth night, unless of course you're into that. If you're into black guys or even just hip-hop music, Hippo on Thurs. but it gets raunchy. If you're ever just looking for a great club to go to, I'd recommend The GetDown. No, it's not a gay club but I've met some nice guys there on occasion, and the music is great and the atmosphere is great. Everything is trial and error. Find out what you like and stick with it.
