How long does it take to learn/pick up a few massage techniques just enough to be able to start some massage trades/give friends a basic massage?Any tips?

I agree, pretty easy. My best girl friend is a massage therapist. Years ago when she was going to school to learn massage therapy, she lived with me. So she would come home from all day at class (year-long program) and needed someone to practice techniques on. So I got lots of good massages. I paid attention to what she was doing, how she was using her hands and picked up on lots of good practices.

So in addition to watching videos online, I would recommend getting a couple legitimate massages from experts and really pay attention to what they do and how they do it. You'll get enough good ideas to make other guys melt in your hands. icon_smile.gif

Can't really screw up. Do what feels good. When working on the extremities, massage towards the body, promotes better circulation. Your looking for more relaxation and not therapeutic technique, so don't use tons of pressure, some people can bruise from that.

Lots of good tips on here already. One thing I'd suggest is to start with light pressure, to warm up the muscles, and then go heavy later on in the process, especially if their muscles are very tight.
