Hopping aboard the Tebow Train

Until this week, I have been a nonbeliever. Tim Tebow is arguably the worst passer yet one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. It's a conundrum. The Broncos are 6-1 with him, and although I am being optimistic hoping the Chiefs clenching the AFC West title, (We'd only have to beat the Broncos, Raiders, and Jets) I genuinely believe that the Broncos have a chance at making it to the Superbowl with Tebow. His playing is ugly, yet week after week he continues to impress, and his stats are actually rising. Any other thoughts on the guy?

Arguably the most exciting quarterback to come along in the NFL in years. His story is so compelling, and the positive role model he is to kids is a refreshing thing to see. Sorry, Swmr, but the Chiefs winning the AFC west seems a bit of a stretch this season. The Broncos are on a roll, and even fans of other teams are jumping on the Tebow train. Go Tebow!!!!

I respect you a lot CJ and we have been on these forums for years, but as a role model I would really beg to differ. I see where you are coming from, but I don't want kids to think like him.

    I don't get it

He was extraordinarily successful with UF

    He's 6-1 in NFL

He's the talk of the country

And he's only just getting started

But because his style of play is a little DIFFERENT (OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

    He gets endless shit

Those morons in Jacksonville passed on him (no pun intended). . . even though he would've doubled attendance. . . and would've been the most exciting thing to happen to the Jags EVER. . . . . and he would've WON. . .

Imagine. . . millions of dollars, a re-energized fan base for a half-dead franchise, a winning season. . . just like he's doing in Denver

    But because he's DIFFERENT. . .

None of that matters. . .

    And he gets endless shit

OK, so his passing game needs work. . . but he's brilliant at everything else, and it's because of him that Denver's WINNING. . .

But because he's DIFFERENT. . . and has his own way of doing things and developed his own style and fostered and nurtured his extraordinary talents. . .

He gets endless shit. . . and the pea-brained nitpickers can't wrap their heads around the fact that he's DIFFERENT so they look for any reason to trash him. . .

So pick on his one weak point, use that as an excuse to bench him or dump him altogether. . .

    Because he's DIFFERENT

He's brilliant and a potential Hall of Famer and has the ability to lead the team to a Super Bowl. . .

    But because he's DIFFERENT

Just give him endless shit and no opportunity and shove him in the background if you keep him around at all. . .

And if he excels?? Well, that's just luck, after all the guys a freak, because he's DIFFERENT. . .

So just listen to the morons and the nay-sayers and the no-talents and all the rest of those losers who haven't expand their mental paradigms since age 7. . . just let the system WIN. . . like it always does

The problems people have with this guy go way beyond the game

And does any of this sound even a tiny bit parallel to your own life experience as a gay guy??

I'm a college football guy and could care less about overpaid NFL players, but I have to admit that after every Broncos game I'm reading the articles. I like to see him proving everybody wrong.

    a. I seem to recall NONSTOP verbal dicksuckings by ESPNs commentators while he was at UF, they couldn't praise him enough. So he's catching a little flack now in the NFL, so what? His throw: his arm starts in Dallas and ends up in Tulsa, absolutely hideous form. His passing stats confirm that (although he is improving). A bunch of dumbass fans and media shitted on Orton's confidence by asking for Tebow and now he takes over and does well... good for him. He's still a self-righteous prick (read his statements/interviews with the media over the years to see for yourself).

    b. No, the fact that I like dudes really makes me no different than any of my straight friends. One of my friends likes asian chicks, I like guys, so what?

He is a good role model. He does a lot of charity work that benefits children. In Denver he is already making a difference by working with local businesses to increase donations for the Tim Tebow Foundation. On top of that he isn't vulgar, he is respectable, and well spoken. Yes, I would prefer my kids to try to emulate Tim Tebow rather than 99.9% of public figures today.

Also, just because he is religious doesn't mean he is anti-gay. There are plenty of gay people who are religious.

Fuck Tim Tebow. I live in Gainesville and everyone worships him.. It's sick. He is stupid, bland and is only talented with football. His disproportionate, butter face needs to just go away and become a nobody.

Kinda wish his mom aborted him the first time around.

    In his case, it does:

I am "religious." I know what Focus on the Family stands for, because I visited its campus and almost applied to be an intern. He is anti-gay in the same way I used to be anti-gay: not overtly hostile, but quietly resistant to any form of public affirmation or recognition that homosexuality is anything but a deviation from "intended" life.

It's the Broncos' defense that's really making Tebow at this point and they aren't getting enough of the credit. The games they've won have largely (with the exception of this weekend against Minnesota) been close, low scoring games. If the Broncos' would find themselves way behind in a game there's no way the high school offense they're running would be able to get them back in the game.

If John Elway were offered a straight up trade of Tim Tebow for Aaron Rogers, Elway would take Rogers with zero hesitation.

I suggest you go to FotF's own website for their stance on homosexuality. Check out their bookstore, too:

I concur. Based on his crazy religion, the world is better off when far right crazies get the suction hose.

Tebow couldn't get this lucky in the NFC.

The Tebow Train is now derailed.

Is this your view, or are you quoting someone else here?

If this is your view, this affirms why I believe Focus on the Family is a dangerous, hypocritical organization.

This "quiet resistance" must have some time explaining to itself the cognitive dissonance of being against abortion and also being against something that happened before birth.

EDIT: I see the words "used to be". My apologies.

Because he is anti-gay dude. Seriously, do you live in this rose-colored cardboard box?

My fucking straight friends who watch football told me that.

He's such a nice guy. It kind of annoys me that some people will say anything just to bring the guy down. The results speak for themselves, even if it's not "pretty" to watch.

Oh lord, don't tell me YOU have escaped from your sandbox again. icon_rolleyes.gif I have never heard (or read) of Tim Tebow uttering a single word that was anti-gay. Like the rest of his fans, I admire Tim Tebow for a variety of reasons -- none of them having a thing to do whatsoever with GAY. Go Tebow!!!!

Apparently one hasnt heard of Focus on the Family, which Tebow is a huge supporter of. Seriously brah, someone has to keep your ignorant ass in check.
