    Probably little can be done with Islamic countries other than to hope they will moderate their response: Islam still sees homosexuality as fundamentally wrong, though progressive Muslims are usually willing to agree to disagree.

    More problematic are Christian countries, which are influenced by American ultra-conservatives and by "competition" with Islam. These can possibly eventually be influenced.

    It's ironic, as I understand that some African cultures were far more friendly to homosexuality. In these cases, homophobia is a fairly recent import.
