Think it would be the same if he had been a Republican?

Excellent site for "exposing and combating liberal media bias". Anticipating the negative response from "RJ's best", the site backs up assessments with numbers.

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/matthew-balan/2011/12/07/cbs-gives-blagojevichs-party-id-abc-nbc-punt

The Big Three network morning shows on Wednesday highlighted the upcoming sentencing of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, but only CBS's Early Show identified the disgraced politician as a Democrat and devoted a full segment to him. ABC's Good Morning America and NBC's Today omitted his party ID, and just gave news briefs on the convict's possible sentence.

CBS correspondent Cynthia Bowers wasted little time before noting that "the former Democratic governor was convicted on 18 counts of corruption, after being caught on a profanity-laced federal wiretap offering political favors in return for financial gain." Bowers played two sound bites from the wiretap recording, including the infamous "bleeping golden" clip from Blagojevich.

Screen Cap of Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, Taken from 7 December 2011 Edition of CBS's Early Show | NewsBusters.orgLater in the segment, the journalist stated that "ironically, Blagojevich was first elected in 2002 on a platform of cleaning up corruption, in a state known for dirty politics." Bowers played a clip where she asked Andy Shaw of the Better Government Association, "What is it about this state and the city [Chicago] that seems to breed this kind of corruption?" She ended her report by highlighting that "Prosecutors have asked the judge for 15 to 20 years behind bars, a ruling that will likely come today."

ABC news anchor Josh Elliott also noted the possible 15 to 20 year prison sentence during his 16-second-long news brief just after the top of the 8 am Eastern hour, but didn't give his party affiliation. On NBC's Today show, Savannah Guthrie's news brief lasted just eight seconds longer than Elliott's. Both journalists highlighted how Blagojevich was "expected to plead for mercy." CBS's Jeff Glor used a similar line in his introduction to Bowers's report: "In Chicago, former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is prepared to plead for mercy today before a judge sentences him for corruption. He faces up to 20 years behind bars."

Back in June 2011, each of the Big Three morning shows omitted the former governor's Democratic affiliation after a jury convicted him. The networks' evening news shows did the same just hours earlier.

This article pertained to the morning shows. No denial that it was never mentioned on other programs. The bias would never be so blatant. Points can be emphasized and de-emphasized by various means. Will adjust the thread title to provide more focus.

Just heard the story on the "Today Show", which I listen to regularly.
It pointed out his sentence was the longest in state history and the former
"democratic" govenor is free until February is planning an appeal.

    Newsbusters? Really? icon_lol.gif

Did they also have an article on how often Faux News "incorrectly" puts a "D" next to the names of Republicans who are facing criminal or ethics charges? It's only happened about 20 times. icon_rolleyes.gif

The story was as of yesterday. Again, the bias is not manifest by absolute policies, but by the degree of emphasis and de-emphasis.

Unless someone has been living under a rock, I would think most people already know he is a Democrat.

Most are also familiar with CocaCola, but they still have a huge advertising budget. Prior to the advent of alternate news sources, the major media was quite effective at selective emphasis of what people already knew to shape opinion.

I don't think there is any bias.... I counted several times on MSNBC this morning where he was referenced as the "democratic former govenor" and even the "disgraced former democratic govenor"

On FOX (with their fair and balanced approach), he was refereced as the "democrat govenor" (of course incorrectly) and even "the democrat" once. Clearly bias is showing, so I agree with John, in a 180 degree.. sort of manner.

Typical delusional HYPOCRITICAL bullshit from socal.
He has no problem with the blatant bias of the Fox right-wing propoganda channel that's owned and operated by Repubs intent on trying to elect Repubs - but he whines about some supposed bias on the left.

The fact is that Blagojevich's sentencing recieved wall to wall coverage on all the networks, while Tom Delay's sentencing last January barely got covered.

And the coverage of the Weiner sex scandal got vastly more coverage than all the recent Cain sex scandals.

The idea that the media is extremely pro-Democratic is a joke.

And the fact is that right-wingers like socal are totally full of shit and hypocritical when it comes to media bias.

Somebody needs to go back to anger management therapy. When they get released for a couple of days on the outside, it all comes out. But you are right, why just focus on Blago when there are so many other examples to look at, so this link is just for RR. Enjoy!

Ah, newsbusters. The website created by a failed right-wing talk radio host (and, really, how bad do you have to be to fail as a right-winger in talk radio???) that susses out liberal bias in liberal talk radio. That's a trustworthy source. I particularly enjoyed when they claimed that progressive hottie Aisha Tyler physical threatened anchor baby Michelle Malkin for jokingly saying that she was going to "kick her in the nut sack."

I agree 100%. I always laugh when people say that the media has a supposed bias on the left.
