Gay Softball

  Any RJ members play in a gay softball league?
  
  I play on an intermediate skill level team in Toronto. So far we are 3 wins and 4 losses. My only complaint is that because I am one of the fitter members of the team I get stuck catching most games. It keeps me in the game, but after awhile my legs get tired.
  
  In a few weeks the Canada Cup tournament is taking place in Toronto. I hope to be playing and meeting all sorts of friendly gays from south of the border. Atlanta, Philadelphia, Minneapolis-St. Paul, NYC, Chicago, Pittsburgh, et.. Great fun.

  You know I wanted to join and almost joined, but SERIOUSLY the amount of time for practicing on top of the time for the games is ridiculous; BARELY leaves time to do OTHER things on the weekends and that's sad 'cause I grew up playing Baseball and LOVE it!!!

  This is my first season in a gay softball league. It's a recreational league, but we're working on forming a team.
  
  I can honestly say I pretty much suck at it, but it's fun, I've met some nice people, and I'm not a quitter so I guess I'll just keep playing until I don't suck as bad.

  Website looks great. I am glad you guys have discovered what I found out years ago. Gay sports leagues are very comfortable and fun places to meet new people. Certainly better than the bars.

  What is it about bowling and gays? Always seems to be a gay bowling league.
  
  There are advantages to living in a big city. The choice of sports is much greater. We even have curling (very popular actually).
  
  I was thinking of doing soccer this year as well, but decided it might be a bit too much. Maybe if I ever stop doing softball I will switch to soccer.

  Volleyball has been one of my favorite fun sports to play.
  
  I managed and played all male softball for 20 years +. Very competitive.
  
  I also spent years bowling in in the bowling leagues, gave me something to do in the winter.
  
  I gave golf a try, but I swung the golf driver like it was a baseball bat, swinging down at the golf ball and snapping my wrist at the point of hitting the ball. I got some good power on the golf ball, but all the ther golfers frowned upon it, so I quit dabbling with golf.
  
  But I live in the NYC area and have not heard of any gay teams in these sports. The only one I ever heard of in my area was for paddle ball, or was that paddle balls, but I never checked it out.

  yes i do normally. i took off this year but we have a balst here in madison with it. alot of us r friends anyway so that makes it so much more fun.

  Yea...turns out the team actually had split from the team we were avoiding. At season's end, we only won about 2 or maybe 3 games at most. It was a horrible season. No one wanted to practice, they all drank beer BEFORE and between games, and we lost one of our top hitters right before the final game. Very depression.
  
  On the up side. It was my first experience in softball, so I learned a lot. I was never a sports guy when I was younger, so I was afraid of the ball at first. At the end of the season, after a hurt toe, a couple of bruises, and catching a fly ball with my BARE HANDS....I'm not longer afraid. Caught a couple of grand slames here and there (by accident) as well. haha.
  
  Next year I'm ditching this team and actually making it out to recruitment day. Can't wait.

  I played on Legacy in the Columbus league back in the 90's, and play on the Dallas Storm team now. Just missed making the series, GO DALLAS!! Good luck to all my brother teams in Columbus.

  I wish I could have been there to manage your team. I've played softball since my teens and was a player/manager for 20 years, and a very good and respected one. I would have gotten every drop of talent your team mates had. Of course, no beer drinking till after the game.
  
  BTW, you can catch grounders, you can catch fly balls, you can catch hard hit line drives, but you can not catch grand slams.

  Yeah thats how it is here in Lauderdale..I Want to also but Im just too damned busy. Plus I suck at it and some of the guys get ridiculously competitive and pissy if you suck. Takes the fun away.

  Gay Softball World Series is here in Columbus this week and there are tons of hot guys here. We have a great Softball park on the south side of the city called Berliner Park with about 20 fields, and the hotels are only a couple miles away with nightlife a walk from the hotels. The only complaint I've heard from some of the guys is the weather - it's in the 80s with high humidity - killing those boys from Portland.
  
  If you like your men sweaty there's plenty of that here. Shout out to Erik the short-stop, number 0, from Portland Vendetta - mmm mmm mmm. Pleasure to see in action.
  
  The Columbus Teams all fall in the B and C range - too bad for us. The A teams seem to be from the more costal regions. The finals are tomorrow, but my friends got beat out today. They play for Columbus Storm - sponsored by Score Bar - which is a great sports bar here in town.
  
  I'll probably still go watch finals tomorrow, its fun and of course, nice eye candy!

  To the members here who are in the Greater Toronto Area, do you know if there is a gay softball league in Mississauga/Brampton area? I've always loved playing softball and baseball but never in an organized league. Would love to try it out next year.
