Someone explain to me what "stacking" is when it comes to supplements and protein.

Heard a lot about supplements being an awesome "stack". What does it mean?

A stack is a loose term that describes a combination of supplements. Originally it was coined from bodybuilders when describing optimal combinations of steroids and drugs for particular goals.

It's a marketing ploy--using the "language" associated with steroid use to promote product. It's the same reason there's a whole line of supplements with the word "black" in their name, or anything ending in "-ol".

Just think of "stack" as a "combination". Sometimes supplements (N.O. for example) is most beneficial for a few months before you need to cycle off of it for a period of time. (You do this because your body becomes adjusted to the supplement and therefore less effective after awhile). So to optimize times when you are "on" certain supplements (legal or otherwise) you "stack" certain supplements that are mutually beneficial. However, most of the time for non-steroid usage, the word "stack" will just mean "taking specific supplements at the same time".

P.S. - Creatine, BCAAs, Omega 3-6-9 are key for me.

The way I understand it in the non-steroid supplement world - it's a combination of supplements that are designed to work together to promote the great results. For example, a N.O. booster pre workout, an energy supplement during, and a protein supplement post workout. There are a lot of different types of stacks. Go to bodybuilding.com and you could view the different stacks. There are way too many options out there so I just do a pre- and post-workout shake.
