Tonight I had a mini-gift come my way. Our complex has a holiday party every year, and I usually go just for the cookies. Too many kids, etc. Anyway, as I made my way out tonight to a restaurant beforehand, my car was making this awful whizzing noise. It's cold out, but this is not the type of noise I hear when it's cold. I thought, shit, I can't afford a costly car repair. Damn.

Anyway, I went to the party afterward and started talking to this older man. Out of the blue he mentioned he just had a new transmission put in his car. I hadn't even mentioned my car at that point. Then I asked what kind of car he has, and he said, "A Hyundai." I told him I had a Hyundai too, and mentioned the noise I heard. He told me he had that problem once, and it turned out to be low power steering fluid. I would have never thought that.

So I went to a store, got some power steering fluid to match my model, and viola, no more noise! Here I was ready to park the car and start walking forever.

So to anyone out there hearing a whizzing noise that eventually goes away when the car heats up, it could be your power steering fluid.
