Brand Name Products or not?

I am just curious to see how many people purchase brand name products. I understand that there are certain goods that an individual feels compelled to buy brand name for good reasons (ie. Margarine - the no-name brand contains more trans fat than the more expensive alternative).

But what about things like Advil and Ibuprofen?? Or cake mix, baking powder, etc.

If you could also list a reason or two, that'd be cool.

I have no problem buying generics or "private labels" as they refer to them nowadays. All these products are manufactured buy the big brand name companies and are many times the same item in a different package.
I shop quite a bit at Trader Joe's and ALDI (both the same store designed for different markets) and they have based everything on high quality private label goods.

When it comes to Tylenol and Advil, buy acetaminophen and ibuprofen. This goes for anything over-the-counter. They are THE EXACT SAME THING and they cost way less.

But when it comes to cake mix, it's all about Ghirardelli. Because things like drugs aren't controlled by a gov't organization, they actually can differ in taste and quality.

It's really just a question of how much you're willing to spend.

I tend to buy what i know and like. If it happens to be a over the counter med, food, clothing, etc it is just how I shop - I see, I want, I buy (if I can't then there is no point to going shopping)

As for buying generic, i will do that sometimes for some products and certainly if they are directly next to a name brand - have an OBVIOUS difference in price, and have the same chemistry/makeup.

However when it comes to cereal, I am buying Cinnamon Toast Crunch - not Cunchy Toasted Cinnamon Sugar Squares...

With clothes, it is almost more fashionable, atleast to me, to purchase more off-brands and style and tweek them to suit me because so many people are wearing the same on-brands and playing them out faster.
I basically look for the right colors that suit me and a good fit is always important. If I can get the right color and fit from an off brand at 50% less than the on-brand, I'll definitely buy it. Besides, I like to wear my clothes, I don't like them to wear me. Because of this, I would never wear a logo across my chest. The jean companies pay people millions each year to advertise for them, but I'm not on the payroll so I think HUGE logos visible are just lame. Mostly when I go out, people say "That shirt looks good on you." not "nice shirt.", which makes me believe I've done a good job at finding clothes to complement me not just nice clothes.

Although, I think my taste differ a great deal from your own, lol.

    ..............................thanks 4 de add

When it comes to food, again: if it taste good and doesn't make me sick, I'll buy it. All these Healthy alternatives: I basically eat the same things I've always eaten and have been living just fine for all these years and won't pay more for all this new and improved stuff.

Cleaning products: this is were it pays to pay more. off-brand cleaning products just don't work as well and you have to use more of it to get the desired effect. On-brands when it comes to these are the better and more economical choice. You really do get your moneys worth when you pay more with these.

When it comes to food, OTC medicine, and things like that (ingestibles), I'll read the ingredients and decide.

When it comes to clothing and such, I don't care about labels either. I just buy/wear whatever fits and looks good.
