Ok, so I'm getting ready for my first office party ever.

I heard a big deal about it, my expectations are high. I know there's another gay guy in the team, both of us are "unannounced", but tonight may be the night of the revelations (and/or more). icon_twisted.gif

How 'bout you folks tell me about your office party annecdotes ? icon_biggrin.gif

One of my coworkers [who's also gay] just called yesterday to ask if I'm bring my boyfriend to the Christmas party this weekend. Not only did I tell him yes, but I told him I'm bring a boyfriend that hotter than him and I put together.

I really know how to make people feel good about themselves. icon_biggrin.gif

we had our party last friday! One of the ladies in our processing department casually asked me if i had a partner or a boyfriend. I was pleasantly surprised that she casually asked, but i found it interesting that she put 2 and 2 together. LOL!

Ours is tonight. I work in a high stress profession, so people usually party hard. I heard some things about last year that I don't' want repeated, but I think its clear cameras stay home icon_razz.gif

Our office xmas "parties" are pretty lame. Just a catered lunch during our lunch break. At one of my previous jobs, they went all out. It usually involved renting out a local restaurant/bar for the entire night. Free booze. Free food. Free cab ride home. Oh, the joys of working for a dot-com startup. icon_lol.gif

Over here, they celebrate the luner new year, so it looks like we will have our office gathering during the evening on one of these weekends in Jan. Free food and booze, red envelops for all the employees which is nice. Can't wait!

Red envelope with pink slip inside?

Office parties give me the willies. What a wonderful chance for everyone to act the fool and be remembered.

Have fun but remember this is NOT the night to drink too much or be too much of an ass. Remember, this is your livelihood, and these are your co-workers, not your friends (usually). Watch out for upper management and don't do anything they might not like. I've seen careers go into ruins over too much drinking and partying. Seriously - - - not to be a killjoy, but be really careful. You're still "on duty" at these things. Have fun, but have your REAL fun when you get out of there and are back with your friends or at home.

Mine's coming up. I heard rumors of free drinks, I sure as hell hope so. It's the only way I'll warm up to most of my new co-workers. I definitely think loads of alcohol is a good move by any management team. A grrat way to increase employee comradery. I'm definitely unsure of how to act at this one, though... You wanna enjoy it for what it is.. But you don't wanna act a fool at a new job.

The good thing about working in film sometimes, too, is at the end of larger shoots, there's a wrap party. It's like 3 company Christmas parties at once, and you don't have to worry about showing up the work the next day- or ever for that matter. Sure, you may work with the people again, but usually in a different structure of "management". Most people are fun, relaxed (huge projects = stress. Wrap party= the end of stress!), and wasted. icon_biggrin.gif

The office parties that my employer throws are pretty big affairs since our boss manages to rent out an 'estate' and provide us with an OPEN bar. Sadly, since many of my co-workers drink their nights away, I'm quite certain there will be much drunken debauchery going on in various rooms. In fact, our boss will probably be getting trashed too. Actually, I am certain that he will be getting drunk off his behind. icon_rolleyes.gif

And with that being said, I am so happy that I WON'T be there to witness it.

American Television is known for it's accurate depictions of real life events.

It is like you have actually been to one then.

Well, *looks at watch* by now things must be either terribly interesting, or our Disasterpiece is in bed. If so, with whom I wonder. icon_wink.gif

Hahaha, I was in bed, we're still working this morning, heh :p

The party was great, we went in an Afghan restaurant (first time I ever meet Afghan food), and it was succulent ! The whole thing was offered by the company, and my co-workers insisted that I pay no bottles of wine since I was not paid for my internship and they were happy to share with me.

Soooo, yes, people were getting a bit tipsy, it was funny, but nothing major happened (except for the secretary raising up her glass at the end of the night and wishing "Happy Christmas / Hanukah / Whatever" to everyone while everybody's glass, hers included, was empty... ).

Oh, and they raised their glass to my short time with them, since my internship finishes next week. I blushed icon_redface.gif

We really don't have a "Christmas party" per se with my office. I usually invite my assistants to have lunch at a nice restaurant. We've done that about 5 or 6 years now and it works.

It hasn't always been that way. We used to do an "office dinner" (with spouses). It just was pretty tough to schedule... somebody's spouse couldn't do it and somebody was upset... and time was always a problem.
We did have 2 "office gatherings" at my new home when it was first built, but somebody was allergic to my beagles and some other assistant was
delving into things she probably shouldn't ("who's stuff is in this bedroom"???...LOL). We came up with the lunch idea and it seems to work. We are doing it on Friday.

I wanted to go to "Doc Greens" (one of my regular haunts), but figured my staff should pick it out (which is absolutely cool).
