Well the subject summed that up for me. I'm on this site for a little inspiration, motivation, and advice. Who better to motivate me then a bunch of gay pack rats?

I've come to that age where a round of sit ups and push ups no longer maintain a good body so I'm a new soul beginning to better my personal health and body. So first thing is first, any advice to a new guy? Beginner gym advice? Links? Anything like that.

I'm a hiker and I've been doing that for about 3 years, though the past yet I've been a little lazy. So I'm trying to get out of my rut and go back to a routine. Thanks guys!

    Welcome!

    Here is your key advice:

    (1) diet matters more than exercise for body composition
    (2) consistency and the ability to do something long term matters more than beasting it now, getting big, giving up and getting fat.
    (3) health matters more than fitness (it´s no good being able to do a 2.5 hour marathon or bench a small cow if you cause kidney failure in the process)
    (4) you don´t really want to beat yourself up to look like a magazine cover, you want to look like your best you.
    (5) your goals are legitimate. If you want to put all your effort into looking good that´s fine. if you want to put your energy into doing triathlon or whatever, that´s fine. you don´t have to conform to other people´s goals.

If you really grasp these points then you will have a long and successful career in the gym.

Thanks and thanks. I have no one I need to impress but myself. So I've attempted some running and cardio training. Currently a smoker trying to slowly quit. (though I seem to have a new excuse every month). I don't want to look like a sculpted god. I just want to be true to myself and more healthy.

So on to my dieting: I'm a bit of a pig. I'm dating an eastern European guy that has never set foot in a gym and eats and drinks anything he wants and still manages to maintain a great body. Asshole. I'm not that lucky. So I'm not saying I'm going to cut out the drinking and burgers. But I feel like I want to have a balance.

Look out for Paul. He'll fuck you in the ass if you're not watching.

    @Paulflexes - BTW, I'll be in FLL 12/20-12/28. I'll bring my blindfold. icon_twisted.gif

    Srsly,

    1. Be consistent and persistent with diet and exercise.
    2. Consider utilizing a personal trainer for a couple of months to get started and to learn a routine. Then, you can go off on your own for a while. Return to the trainer when you get into a rut. Mix your routine up to keep it fresh and fun.
    3. "FitBuilder" app for iPhone helps to track progress.

    Welcome!

Ditch the cigs. Do more cardio and drink lots of water as you detox off the nicotine. Get some wellbutrin from your doc to help make the transition. Do cardio early in the day. It kick starts your metabolism and oxygen perfusion.

On the diet thing, remember that whatever goes into the grocery cart goes into you. So, don't put shit in your grocery cart. Keep your shopping to the "sides of the store" in the grocery store. In other words, where the produce, fresh meat, seafood, dairy are located. The poison lurks down the aisles. That's where all the processed, preserved, and frozen crap all are interred.

Also, cut out all the "white death" that is in your diet: Sugar, white flour, salt, etc.

You should really consider using chain. Like, welded NACM90 machine/coil chain/passing chain (3mm). I've been known to break rope. Remember, there's hell to pay if the sub gets loose.

That's because you were going too fast and had just shot the guy in front of you.

It would have been sorta worthless info at that point.

I don't think you need to tell us to stay loaded- most of us are ready to shoot anytime, anywhere ;)

Returning to the topic at hand, besides gym work, i highly suggest working on other less common things like meditation, yoga, and martial arts. all of those put those new-found muscles into use while supporting a "whole" sort of healthy.
