I would post this in Baseball... but that's a really long way to scroll...
Well I'm here in Nebraska getting prepared for the horrendous traffic that will be the CWS... and wondering...
Who's coming? Who's your team?

If you aren't coming - WHY NOT?!

My team is LSU as I was born and raised in Louisiana and spent the first 23 years of my life there but I will not be there. I get to work because this is the busiest time of the year for the company I work for.

My team unfortunately sucked it up this year, Oregon State University here. So needless to say I will not be going to the CWS...

(though with back to back national titles, I can't really complain)

Well, one of my alma maters, Stanford, is in the hunt. So I have to pull for them.

With my Longhorns out I have to reach back to the old Southwest Conference and support the Rice owls...

My (adopted) team, the Arizona State University Sun Devils, had the chance to sit aside their female counterparts in softball with a World Series trophy (not that they would have won, but they had the chance).

But, no! They decided they would pull a stupid stunt and pretend to have a fight amongst themselves on the field for the sole purpose of distracting Fresno State. Since they lost the last two games of the series, it appears that they were the ones distracted. Serves them right!

Although I wouldn't have gone to Omaha anyway (nothing against the city; just not enough vacation time), they are known for hosting a great series.

So glad ASU lost... morons

And since Miami beat my Wildcats, I hope they do well. Although maybe I should have some Pac10 pride with stanford... but they're mascot is fricken tree so what good is that.

Im in NC but not gonna be a follower...

Now, now. The Tree is actually a member of the Band. the mascot is a very specific shade of red. Which is about as intimidating, sure, but at least Stanford's more intimidating than, say, the NYU Violets...

So Round 1 of CWS is over...Stanford (16-5 over FSU) and Georgia (7-4 over Miami) surprised Miami and Florida State to win group 1 games and Fresno State (17-5 over Rice) and Carolina (8-4 over LSU) won Group 2 games.

That means Miami and Florida State will face each other today at 11am EST in an elimination game and Stanford and Georgia will square off in the "Winner's Bracket" of Group 1 at 4pm EST.

Tomorrow, Rice will play LSU in an elimination game at 11am EST and Carolina will play Fresno State in the winner's bracket of Group 2.

Right now, you've got to like the way Carolina is playing, but baseball is the toughest sport to predict in a tournament format....

Update...

Fresno State and Georgia are in the drivers seats to make the finals...

The Bulldogs continue to shock people by beating Carolina yesterday. Georgia beat Stanford.

Miami/Stanford play. Loser elimated. Winner will have to beat Georgia twice.

LSU/North Carolina play in the other bracket. Again, loser elimated and winner will have to win two straight against Fresno State...

Rice and Florida State are the first two sent packing...

dammit!!! my boys....Rice...is out!!! Oh well...I must say we do pretty well considering we are the smallest competitive DI school and considering our Avg. SAT scores are so high!!!

Those atheletes on Rice's team have to hold their own in the classroom. They don't get pampered nearly as much as they do at other major universities!!!

As I'm watching the final game, I would have to say that LeftofCenterus had it right when he said on June 18th:

"Update...

...and sure enough, they did. Congratulations on the right call.

Thanks Frank...Can't beleive the "Wonderdogs" of Fresno pulled it out...There's a BIG PARTY in the Central Valley tonight...Pick ups, shotguns and Lots of Alcohol....One of the few times in my life I've said "Wish I was in Fresno tonight!"...

For those of you that have never been, Fresno is rapid for their Bulldogs and they like to party hard there. Congrats to FSU for winning their first National Championship in any sport. You MEN in Fresno have fun tonight celebrating!
