Why question it? Why not just get it and check it out. You don't have to post a photo right away...

it simply loads the profiles closest to you; there is no distance ceiling function, so it will simply display people in order of distance, even if it starts getting over a hundred miles. You decide if that's worth it for you.

well in very small rural cities like Charleston SC Grindr is a pick and choose game where there are only a hand full of guys that actually are out and online looking.

Why not? it's free. Doesn't take a lot of work.

And you get out of it what you put into it. Just like any gay site. If you want hookups, then you can get those. I prefer dates, so I've used it to have some nice dates and drinks with guys.

Yeah.. I have been wondering if things like Scruff and Grindr are worth it. I'm a smartphone holdout because I just haven't had a need for one. I mean, the only thing that would be actually useful and not just a toy-thing would be to check the weather and road closures in the mountains. And I can check road info by a simple phone call anyway. Is that really worth an extra $300 a year on top of dropping at least $100 on the phone?

Grindr is a big waste of time for the most part - but I do not have patients for all the games I seem to get on there... not sure how many people are actually meeting guys on there??

Right, so we're in the same boat. To me, can I justify a couple of hundred of dollars a year more out of my pocket, just so I can cruise another gay digital site? I think hard about it, and really, I just have no other use for a smartphone besides Grindr and or Scruff. Is it really worth the money?

Everyone tries to nickle-dime you these days with all these gadgets, subscriptions, aps, technologies. They are all individually "cheap" but boy does this stuff all add up. Personally, I'd rather spend my spare cash on international traveling.

Guys, you don't need to get chained to a long term contracts to use smartphone apps. You have a few choices..

    - Get an Apple ipod touch. 8GB model is less than $200. It uses wifi instead of cell networks.

    - Get an Android media player. Samsung Galaxy Player 8GB is under $200 also. Uses wifi.

    - Get a prepaid Android smartphone. You can pick up an LG Thrive for ATT at Best Buy for $120. Then pay as you go for data and voice. Uses wifi and cell networks. This might be the best route to take. You don't have to rely on finding free wifi when you're out around town. And you can give your trick the prepaid cell number instead of your real home/cell number. icon_lol.gif

Try it and if you don't like it then delete it from your phone. Life really isn't this hard folks.

In the beginning its like being a big kid w/ a new toy. A few days later the new feeling wears off and your left looking at the same damn guys day in and day out. Equals boring, now if you take a trip somewhere... Now were talking!

Quite the opposite. Metropolitan areas are where Grindr (and others) are less needed if you get out much.

Well since everyone has basically given you the idea what Grindr is used for I guess I can just tell you that, even in small towns things like this app usually find an unexpectedly high number of people near you.

Since you expect zero, I'd say there's a good chance of there being 7 Grindr's near you.
