    Do nothing.

As despicable as hate crimes are, unless we want to toss more of America (and the West)'s increasingly worthless money at invading third-world hellholes and propping up dictators whose views align with our own...

... the UN is a collection of assorted hoodlums, terrorists, and megalomaniacs along with a few rays of hope from the developed world that is largely ineffective.

And the policies of empire building and regime changing haven't worked as well for us here in the USA as some would have thought.

Only because the United States is the most benevolent (read ridiculous) Empire the world has ever seen... expanding power while terrified of seeming to expand power.

Your lack of compassion is disturbing in an adult. The answer was never invasion. That was never going to do a damn thing apart from create more opposition. And Larky is right.... occupation has to be for decades and centuries if it is to have a lasting impact.

That's good news--I'd rather it was paired with an ultimatum but it's better than nothing. The U.N. isn't as ineffective as alphatrigger says--they take on some of the most challenging obstacles on Earth and progress is slow sometimes. The world without the U.N. would be seriously fucked.

I'm most concerned about Uganda and the damn evangelicals that are infecting the area with their thought, though the report cited here did not mention the place.

I've long pondered what role mass media could play in this plight and am interested in writing a movie about a man's response after the first scene: at his wedding, he gathers with groomsmen and when he kisses his new husband, his husband's head explodes because he was shot by a sniper. My take for the story would be that he first turns to violent revenge and then regrets the violence because it spurs more. The story is more of a "it gets worse before it gets better" angle.

The parts of the world that scoff at same sex marriage need to be bludgeoned tastefully the same way we are with material of hetero marriages.

We've come a very long way but we're probably not even halfway "there", that is, to equality

criminalisation is something which can be dealt with under international law. That cannot deliver equality, but it can do something to help the terrible situation of gay people in hateful countries.
