Is anyone planning to attend next year's Mardi Gras in Sydney?

Im planning on doing it for the first time. Any recommended places to stay and things to do?

I was planning to go the weekend before the parade, spend 3-4 days somewhere and then head to Sydney for 3-4 days over the parade/party weekend and then head out of the city else where for another 3-4 days.

    Recommendations welcome.

I would love to and will accept any donations, stow away opportunities or free rides to get there... anyone?

I'm going for the first time in a few years. Bringing some US mates too.

Kirketon and Medusa are good Darlinghurst hotels to stay at, and not awfully priced. I've stayed at the Westin too which, while downtown, was a good place to shower, sleep and re-energize!

anwalsh, I think your schedule sounds perfect. We are probably going to do the same but want to see Nth QLD or New Zealand from the Tuesday after the parade until the weekend. I would highly recommend not flying out on Monday AM if you are going to do the parties all weekend - it's a tough recovery.

New Orleans next spring will be fine, thank you. And yes, we are not under water and you can drink it. We are back.... with a vengeance.

    Hope this helps!
My partner and I were in Sydney for the 2008 Mardi Gras and had a blast!
Did not do the big party, but still managed to have fun! If you plan to do the party check out their web site, you can buy a membership that gives you a discount on the purchase of two tickets. It sold out this year, with a huge line up the day of for a fee released tickets that went in minutes.
The bar to go to that we adopted for our stay was The Columbian! Great music, great times!
The parade is at night and takes a long time! People sell milk crates to stand on to see for those that don't line up early. If you get a good window seat at the bar, stay! The lineups to get in after are crazy!
For a place to stay, see below. Was pretty central for everything!
Hope this helps! The planning is some of the fun!
    Good Luck!
