Hello- and thanks for taking time to read this. i have a couple of extra days off during the holidays, and before i go to the beach house in the carolinas, am thinking about stopping and staying a night or 2 in norfolk, i've been wanting to see the u.s.s. monitor at the mariners museum.
can anyone familiar with the area recommend places to stay, dine out? i'm low maintenance, i don't need a suite, or fine cuisine. just a clean reasonable place to stay in an area that is convenient to access, and seafood is my preference, followed by home cooked southern style food and italian. and if there are any places recommended for nightlife, i do enjoy the company of men ;)

    Stay: Marriott in downtown
Southern food: hmmm... I can't really help you there. My friend Donny's restaurant Ten Top has "home cooked" entrees but his food isnt "southern" per se.
Italian: I like Fellini's. It's the local staple for Italian.
Seafood: your best bet probably is to head over to Virginia Beach. Waterman's, Mahi Mahs, Hot Tuna, etc.
Nightlife: Gay bars - Wave for younger crowd, Garage for older more bearish crowd Straight - downtown. Just hit up Granby St. for a row of bars. Ghent has plenty of bars too. Ghent is more faux-bohemian though (and I say that lovingly).
