Need training advice for problem calves and forearms

    I am an ectomorph who has been working out over many years and have been pretty happy with the results. However, I have not had success adding size to my calves or forearms and have just given up on the calves.

    What training tips does everyone have to help give my calves and forearms a little size? Thanks in advance.

    For forearms I do hammer curls and reverse curls, 3 sets of 8-12.

    Calves I have completely given up.

    Body typing isn't necessarily the most productive thing in the world. There's SOME truth to mesotypes, but anyone can change their body with the right amount of diet and lifting.

    Word of advice about calves: GO SLOW. Go slow on seated calf press, go slow on standing calf press. Going too quickly will put all of the strain on your achilles tendon, working it rather than your muscle. Taking time to slow down and concentrate on the contraction will make those calves hurt harder than anything, even with a low weight. Pain=growth icon_razz.gif

    Forearms... I'm in a similar boat, but a lot of it is my own fault. Using straps will definitely not help them grow (my problem), but my grip tires quickly if I'm going really heavy for back, so it's a give and take. getting one of those dowels with a rope attached to it and hanging a 10 lbs weight will help a lot... just wind it up, and unwind it. Murder for the forearms!

    Train for sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and eat.

    The best thing that's worked for my calves was to keep the reps high (at least 15) per set.
