    Any Eagles?
What do you think of the 4 scouts and 1 leader killed by a tornado outside of Omaha, wednesday evening?
Could you have been as calm and rational?

I am an EAGLE....I am shocked an absolutley heartbroken for those boys, their friends and families. What a horrible way to remember scout camp. I don't know that I could be that calm and rational NOW, let alone when I was 13 or 14......35 years ago...icon_cry.gif

I am an Eagle. I'm saddened because they were people, not because they were Scouts. It's not any more or less tragic because it happened at a Scouting function.

I had to quit at First Class because my parents didn't have the time to be involved.
But I can still recite by heart:

    A Scout is:
    Trustworthy
    Loyal
    Helpful
    Friendly
    Courteous
    Kind
    Obedient
    Cheerful
    Thrifty
    Brave
    Clean
    and
    Reverent

Sad about the twister. I think this sort of thing has happened before, but this one was more deadly. Sounds like a real nightmare, but at least some of these kids had first aid training.

I quit the Cub Scouts after two weeks and began a lifelong pattern that continues with relationships.icon_biggrin.gif

It was interesting when the Scouts made it clear that a Scout can't be gay or atheist. I'm not sure about agnostic.

I am an Eagle Scout too (despite the fact that they kicked me out for challenging their discriminatory policies). But anytime any tragedy like this occurs it is sad no matter if they are Scouts, postmen, or dogs.

Tragedies like this especially sadden me when the victims are so young. They didnt get a chance to experience life. Poor kids.

<--Eagle Scout with three palms and a OA Brotherhood member. I've always kept a level head in emergencies, even when I was younger...can't say that would have been a pleasant situation though. we had inclement weather shelters at our camp grounds if we ever needed them...and sometimes we did.

Boy Scouts was a great experience for me growing up in a suburb of Boston where I made it to Life Scout.
That incident is a tragedy as is the fact that the BSA have taking their VERY homophobic public stance.

Was (also suburban Boston), but never got Eagle. Dropped out after 2 1/2 years to be more of a "cool kid"...how uncool is that?

My troop met in the Unitarian church each week. I doubt that homophobic crap would have flown there.

Interesting my troop met in the 1st Baptist Church in Arlington, MA where I lived.
We never talked about gay people but later I found out several of our Scout leaders were gay.

Eagle scout here as well. Even with its flaws, it is a great organization.

    Very sad about the tragedy.

Big tragedy. Reminds me of summer camp when I was younger; we were all escorted to a valley while a tornado was in the area with the rain pelting down. Happily I was calm and all the other guys were too. There is comfort in company.

    I'm an eagle scout.

Worked at a boy scout camp during the summers of 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. The last summer me and another boy staffer fucked like rabbits the whole time.

Imagine you and someone else ripping off boy scout uniforms as you 2 go at it...

    It's hot
