Is crystal meth still a problem on the US gay scene?

I was wondering about this because that drug has never taken off here in the UK. Also you don't hear much about it being a problem any more.

What effects does it have on guys? Is it like Ketamine or GBH which can knock you out into a coma?

I thought it was pretty widespread all together, not limited by any constraints.

The town next door was the meth capitol of the state or nation a while back.

Spokane, WA was the meth capital (and had one of the worst crime problems) of Washington state for a while. I don't know about the gay scene, but in general meth is an issue in my parts. In fact, Idaho just launched a new round of meth-awareness television and radio campaigns recently, so yes, I'd say it's an issue. Personally, I've never encountered it, but I know people who know people.

I am not sure about the gay community right now, but it is an issue in rural Canada more than urban Canada.

I think drugs, in general, are still a problem .. but sexuality has little to do with it.

Gay or straight, if you're looking for it, you'll find it.

It still bad enough that when you meet a guy you like
... finding out if he likes to party is more important than if he likes to smoke

Funnily enough, it was on a guy's profile he said he wasn't into guys who "like to party" and guess this is code for tina.

I don't see it much anymore, but maybe that has to do with being out of the bar scene (even as an observer) for over 2 years now. I hear less and less of guys getting wrapped up in that world. However, for those who the party never ended, I see a terrible change in outlook, socializing, career, skin and general health. When meth addiction takes hold, it's a vicious beast.

It doesn't seem to be that big of a deal in this area. But I hear about stories every now and then where a lab was found or dealers caught. I don't think it has to do with a certain 'scene' or 'sexuality' because I have known gays and str8's that do it.
And personally, from experience, I don't see what the allure is. I don't see what the desire or attraction to keep doing it is. I found none.

In Nevada its a big problem, with everyone. Not sure in the gay scene at large, but those I hang with not at all (that I am aware of).

That said, I've met very few gay guys in Nevada or California that wasn't a crystal addict at one point, but none of them are now.

Meth is probably #3 as far as the use of illegal drugs. Most of the people I know who are drug abusers abuse cocaine. We have quite the active cartel in Omaha's gay bar scene.

I guess no one answered the "what effect it has on guys."

Its speed, so it keeps you awake and makes most people feel good. If people keep doing it they can stay awake for days. It apparently makes guys really horny, but the ironic part of it is it makes you limp...lol

Other benefits include tooth decay, body sores, higher risk of contracting HIV (due to poor decision-making and/or sharing needles) and brain damage. Oh, you can also lose all the cartilage in your nose if you do it too long.

I did it two times many, many years ago....it, and the people who do it regularly, are lame IMO. Not people I want to hang with.

It's borderline tacky, really. The last time I was at Max people were doing lines off of the counter.

    Eww.

LOL With some employees, I'm sure. Bar Mgt knows about it and they don't do shit. And the cops don't do shit, they'll arrest one person at the bars for selling, then go have donuts the rest of their shifts.

I have some funny stories about getting people thrown out of the Max for drugs, while I worked there, but its never enough to get rid of it, it seems.

Drugs, Crystal.......yeah, seems to be on the wane. People have seen the sick damage it causes. Still it's there. Its been offered to me sometimes and I won't have any part of it.

Whenever I've been at dance clubs the guys I think are on meth don't seem really happy or connected with what's going on around them. They seem to be in a daze only concerned with their own enjoyment.

I hope people stop doing this drug.

And the weirdest thing is that a lot of guys are physical beauties( but to me not sexy) who look so healthy but they are pumping poison through their bodies.

    Its self destructive..

if you examine the patterns of historical drug use, types and rates of use vary vastly among populations further affected by culture, religion, geography, altitude, financial affairs...

There are many places with the right combination of catalysts for high risk elevated beyond normal variances...most notable regions are inland southern california communities, inland Australia [trending melbourne] and rural north america

new laws restricting the materials required are just now showing an effect....
    it is not sufficient.

as far as its relationship to the gay community,
check out a book "Tweakers: How Crystal Meth Is Ravaging Gay America" by Frank Sanello.

I know the author, he lives in West Hollywood, brilliant guy.

based on all the public service announcements and that type of thing, you would think that tweak was taking over gay los angeles. ive lived in west hollywood for almost two years now and am quite familiar with the gay scene here on Santa Monica blvd, and have not EVEN ONCE knowingly seen, spoke to, or heard about someone who was on speed. that doesn't mean it never happened since sometimes it's difficult to tell (although i am a frequent attender of raves where drug use is prolific and I have learned the obvious signs).

so what that all means, i have no idea, but its not as "out there" as some people make it out to be.

I should have specified it was the *bathroom* counter. At least they're smart enough to not do it out in the open, unlike the Run.

I've heard that a lot of guys still do it, but personally I don't know anyone that does. It's crazy because people are always talking about the tweeking gays around here, but I just don't know of anyone that actually does it.

Maybe it's because I rarely go out to bars and never go to any of the gay pick up areas... who knows.

It's a problem of epidemic proportions in Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, etc. It's such a dirt-bag drug too. Tweakers suck.
