Merry Christmas Ma'am. Thanks for another great year; a job bloody well done Ma'am. Our Thoughts and prayers are with Prince Philip at this time to. It must be the first Christmas since your wedding Ma'am that you two have been apart, due to Philip being in hospital from heart surgery.

    Long Live the Queen.

the cool thing is I had to go digging to find out what the heck pattison is talking about.

It seems cdn news really doesn't care much about what happens with the British royals.
(the Queen's Greek husband had a heart attack, apparently)

As far as what kind of job she is doing - uh, what is it a Queen does nowadays?

She has to meet and greet all those horrible prime minsters and presidents from the world`s dictatorships and make small talk.....before we sell them lots of arms.
Still, she`s had plenty of practice so far!

Your posts showed that you're a decent chap. The posts that followed were, at best, juvenile and historically illiterate.

Oh and by the way HRH Prince Philip does not have one drop of Greek Blood in him.

The Queen God bless her soul and what she represents is what has helped Oz become the great Southern land we are today; with a qulity of life many Americans only dream about, or want to smash America apart, in a hope they may get what they want.

So the Queen is one hard working women for her age. Now how many American past presidents has she had to deal with now?

    Long live the Queen.

Also something many do not know. The Queen in fact pays her own way, out of the cash the Government Gives the Royal family is out of Crown land that the Government now holds and receives the revenue from, and that pays the crown their Civil list out of those said funds.

    Long live the Queen.

we will send her the bill then for the security and nuisance of her offspring "gracing us" with his honeymoon.

She contributes nothing to her costs when she imposes her presence upon us - and we are all required to fawn over her because she in the most recent decendant of the bandit du siècle 600 years ago.

Our "crown" can be virtual and needs no foreigner pretending any claim of ridiculous "sovereignty."

She is a (not very nice) old rich lady whose idea of fun is shooting animals for mere sport.

Had her uncle had not been a horny goat who thought Hitler had the right idea, she would be another obscure not very rich holdover of an inbred aristocracy selling old jewelry and giving guided tours of her crumbling home.) and he would have been "by Divine Right" so exalted. icon_biggrin.gif

I understand why Britain might want to keep monarchy as a quaint remnant of their feudalpast but it is totally unnecessary elsewhere.

Let the royal family be citizens of the countries of their choice and pay taxes, including property taxes.

For most of the twentieth century the royal family successfully lobbied behind the scenes for progressive exemption from most forms of tax levied on everybody else. The last monarch to pay his way, taxwise, was Edward the Seventh(1901-10). Only since the 1990s has the Queen, Prince Charles, etc. begun to pay their way like everybody else in Great Britain.
My argument was never with an exemplary monarch like the Queen:it`s with the principle of an inheirited head of state.
The logic of democracy calls for an elected government and the head of state.

What is the point of monarchy?

Aside from affording huge wealth and social status to people merely based on their parentage.

Not to say that doesn't happen here. Paris Hilton, for example.

If the crown "owns" all its lands and properties, then let them pay the going property tax rate to the counties and municipalities.

There is nothing unfair in that. They could keep the stuff they inherited as long as they pay tax on it like everything else.

If they want pomp, servants and footmen, lert them pay the full costs entirely themselves. ESPECIALLY the security whenever they go out.

I give credit to young William for at least having a job, but he will quit when he inherits the right to be ultimate parasite - a cuter Jabba the Hut.
    icon_wink.gif

I actually have no ill will toward the people of the royal family. It is Monarchy itself as a tradition that i find as repugnant as the tradition of slavery.

How can he be a parasite when the money the Government gives to the Civil list, comes from revenue earned by properties owned by the Royals, yet under Government controle. Because such properties could allow the Monarchy to survive without the government; they just would not need the Government because of their own wealth, and that make Government feel insecure.

So no the Royals are fare from parasites, and young Price William has more international influence than Obama the American President; OMG lets talk about what he has cost Oz; and he just does not give the same value for money as the Queen and The Duck and Duchess of Cambridge.

As an Aussie, I see the Royal Family as our saviours, they saved us from the slavery of Vatican City Rule, and that of the Spanish too. My country also never thieved under Slavery as the US did either. I look at what a great Country America could of been today, if only it stay with it's Royal roots, but instead it has lost it's way. Americans know more about greed and access, way more than the British Royals do.

Thanks to the Great love of Queen Elizabeth II, and the fact her grandson William has more international influence than Obama; a Republic for Oz is a bloody long way off.

    Long live the Queen.

If the Queen were replaced by a cat, Her Meowjesty the Queen of the United Catdom would be just as hard working if not more so.icon_wink.gif

Added benefit: cats don't need to be showered in millions of pounds to fill their bank vaults. Reward them for their royal service with some nice cat toys, treats and catnip.

For the UK itself the royals probably do bring in more tourist cash than what they cost and I do respect the Queen for the amount of work she has to do.. I mean who really would want to spend 300+ days per year attending boring ceremonies opening a building, watching dreadful concerts put on by local groups where she's forced to visit and on and on and on,, day after day. Two or three times a day some days...

But really she doesn't do anything for us here in Canada,, she doesn't live here, people don't come here to see a palace she lives in etc. so I think it's high time we divorced ourself from that tradition.
