I'm trying to gain weight over Christmas, but it's just not happening. :-(

Below: 8 Eggs scrambled with sharp cheddar cheese topped with fresh avocado. 3 slices of whole wheat toast with Irish butter. A glass of grapefruit juice. A cappuccino made with 1/2 and 1/2. Thick cut bacon candied with maple syrup.
Close up of bacon provided for closer inspection.

I tried to keep the cardio down to 10 minutes today, with another 50 minutes in the weight room.

    What am I doing wrong?

I can swap you with my metabolism if you like. It feels like if I just glance at something with sugar or fat in it, I gain weight :S. I say just eat more, perhaps fit in some more bread/carbs in there.

I say up the carbs. I've noticed that the amount of protein I take in is completely immaterial if I am not intaking enough carbs along with it.

I mean no disrespect when I say that I sort of hate you. I ate turkey and butternut squash on Christmas and avoided pretty much everything else so I wouldn't gain weight... :-(

I've actually lost 2 more pounds.

Can we bottle whatever is in your metabolism? I want to take it?

Since Thanksgiving, I've gained about 4-6 pounds. This is after 3 straight months of not gaining anything. Looks like my grandma's desserts finally did the trick. icon_biggrin.gif

I recently pulled my shoulder and haven't been working out as intensely as I usually do (for the past 3-4wks). To make things worse, I've been binging on Christmas treats every day for about the same period of time. Surprisingly, when I weighed myself (& I do it only once a month), I discovered that I actually lost weight. (However, I do think that I lost a little bit of muscle weight and gained a little bit of fat.)

You forgot gobs of peanut butter on top of the toast. Or better yet, replace the toast with french toast or pancakes with coconut, walnuts and bananas. Keep the butter and peanut butter on top. And don't forget the syrup.

You'll be the mayor of carb heaven in no time. giggle.gif

You're so hot that the fat melts away before it has a chance to stick.

If it's not going to mass, it must be going to heat. You just be giving off enough heat to roast a marshmallow.

dude, I know what you mean..

i came home for christmas with the attitude to eat a lot of good food.
since I dont have a gym membership where my parents live, I thought i would try to put on some weight to deal with in the gym when I get back there in two weeks. only training i'll be doing during the holidays will be pushups and maybe some chin-ups..

so anyway I did my best to stuff myself haha!
I'm talking christmas ham (no we dont do turkey here..), pies, lots of pickled herring in different fat/creamy sauces, potatoes, smoked salmon/gravlax, sallads with dressing, cakes, chocolate, beer etc etc..

in other words: lots of fats (good and "bad"), carbs AND proteins.

hopped on the scale today only to find out i LOST almost 3kg's in 4 days WTF!!? icon_eek.gif

can someone explain this to me??

I always gain at least 10 pounds over Christmas. So far this year it's 12. I think most of it's due to egg nog. icon_redface.gif

Me too I ate everything and at any time that was on offer over xmas, pizza, turkey, ham, lamb, pork, cheese, biscuits, nuts, pate you name it, lots of italian food, dutch biscuits, tirimasu, cheesecake and lost 2 kg ( sorry not sure how many pounds). I also spent xmas in a wine region and drank loads and loads of wine.
The only excercise I did was chasing my nephews and neices around plus a long slow walk along the beach about 10 kms. I have never had this problem before

The toppings for the toast were both from France. One was a chestnut butter, the other was a citron marmalade.

I think you're right on the pancakes. I usually have a short-stack with extra butter and real maple syrup. But I forgot.

Instead of eating, have them cremated and sprinkle all over your body. perhaps that would work

I do give off a lot of heat. My parents used to joke that they never needed a heater. They would just put me in the middle of the living room and let me go. icon_lol.gif
