ART_DECO saidIsn't the guy in this story, Bryan Hawn, an RJ member?
Yep. He's posting away quite nicely today.
I suspect the other threads got deleted for being spam, he was trying to sell a book.
Perhaps, but we've had other RJ members plugging their own books, or other things they do like professional photography, art and whatnot, even my own charity bike ride for HIV/AIDS (although that's non-profit). I suppose it can be a matter of degree, and posting a book order form in the thread might be a bit much, or joining for a day just to advertise something. But I'd lean toward being lenient with members who accomplish things and wanna spread the good word with their buds here.
Because the alternative would be to deny us the opportunity to support a fellow member, and maybe get something for ourselves that really interests us. Support of our local gay community merchants where we live is something my husband & I very strongly endorse, and I see no reason why it can't be done online, too, within reason.
On one gay site I had owned I actually created an archive where members could bulletin board their companies & services. And why not? It actually reduced the commercial spamming in the member discussion areas, and gave guys a kind of "pink pages" they could browse to their benefit anytime they wanted. I had a travel info archive, too, that members could consult as needed, didn't have to always be asking in the forums where's a good gay guesthouse in Key West with online links, or wherever, like we must on RJ.
