    ...and the population keeps expanding.

Doubt it? Just go read many political discussion threads on RJ. Or about race.

Along the lines of the intelligence test scene in Idiocracy:

If you have a standard sized bathtub filled (approx. 50gallons) and you have 2 buckets: a 5 gallon and a 1.5 gallon.
What is the easier way to drain the tub?

I heard on one of the TED series of talks we're getting smarter, by about 3 IQ points every decade.

But I posit we are regressing.

Yes, because we don't live longer, better lives or still die from diseases like scurvy or have little pieces of glass that we can carry in our pockets that allow us to talk with most anyone, anywhere or have access to most every piece of information ever generated by anywhere or have more people who know how to read and write .

Yup, I don't take a rocket to work and can't have my lunctime sandwich in pill form, so we MUST be getting stupider.

    Not so, not so...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flynn_effect

I think much of the perception to the contrary stems from the fact that intelligence grows IN THE INDIVIDUAL from birth to full age. When you are young, older people are smarter than you. When you are of age, younger people are dumber than you. But measured at the same age, those that came a generation after you are smarter. (All in the aggregate, of course.)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_quotient#IQ_and_age

Having worked in an IQ-intensive industry (high tech), I verified first-hand that a generation makes a huge difference in average IQ.

I agree that stupid people tend to breed more idiots in this world. They dont have the slightest clue how to raise their children in a more civilized way.

    Relation between IQ and intelligence
"IQ is the most researched approach to intelligence and by far the most widely used in practical setting. However, although IQ attempts to measure some notion of intelligence, it may fail to act as an accurate measure of "intelligence" in its broadest sense. IQ tests only examine particular areas embodied by the broadest notion of "intelligence", failing to account for certain areas which are also associated with "intelligence" such as creativity or {Emphasis Added}emotional intelligence.

There are critics who do not dispute the stability of IQ test scores or the fact that they predict certain forms of achievement rather effectively. They do argue, however, that to base a concept of intelligence on IQ test scores alone is to ignore many important aspects of mental ability.[2][92]"

-We dont have to collect our own food from an infinite amounts of plants and animals to know about and choose from, dont have to know when its ripe, if its safe, what its natural habitats and habits are

-We dont need to look at the stars, sun or moon to tell time... dont need to learn anything by heart anymore, we can look everything up, and most of us can manage our whole lives speaking only one language.. those little pieces of glass do all the thinking for us

-Yes, we really are getting stupider
