Why do I get carded but my partner never does...

I already know that this is a ridiculous question, but it really bothers me and I don't know why... Here's my rant...

Every time my partner and I go to a bar or restaurant, we order our drinks at the same time and the bartender always asks to see my I.D. but they NEVER ask to see my partners. It makes me feel like shit. I feel like they think he is my father or something instead of my friend or partner. My partner is older than me and looks older than me but not that much. I'm much taller and weigh more, and he doesn't look like he could be my father at all.

I've never worked as a bartender or waiter, but if I was I would think it would be more polite to ask to see both friends I.D. and not just single one person out, make jokes to my partner about me looking young. A lot of times they'll ask me if I'm 21, stare at me in doubt, and then ask for my I.D.

Another thing is that they ALWAYS hand the bill to my partner at the end of our meal (even though we always take turns paying). It's like they assume he is my father or something...I don't understand it at all.

Anyone else have this problem. I know I need to stop letting it get to me, but it really hurts.

    I second that.

People assume I'm younger than my actual age. I usual correct them only because I like to be honest about it.

I'm blessed that I've managed to retain my youthful looks and I hope to keep it that way for at least another ten years! icon_biggrin.gif

You're only 21 - of course they are gonna card you! How old is your partner?

Seriously. Don't make a big deal out of it. I still get carded for alcohol and rated R movies and I'm 27. I mean, is it really that much of an inconvenience to whip out your ID for two lousy seconds and flash it to a bartender?

I actually take offense now that I HAVEN'T been carded in ages. I look at least 10-15 years younger than I am, but I can't remember the last time I got carded. It might be all about confidence and presence. When I walk into a bar now, if they are selectively carding, I will just look at them, nod, then keep walking. If I'm ordering a drink, if I don't already have a tab started, I'll be holding out my debit/credit card in front of me - never get carded that way.

You're young, be happy you're still getting carded. Don't be such a whiner.

In LA they card everyone. I am almost 50 and get carded EVERY TIME I go out. And judging by your post you sound 12 years old so you probably should be carded. Even more shocking is that you have a partner.
