Who are you picking for Wimbledon?
Without knowing the draw and thus not knowing if this combo is even possible, I think Roger, Rafa, Novak, and Roddick for the men's semis. A little boring, but maybe I'll come up with a dark horse in the next week.
I don't have enough information to make an educated projection on the women's side, but Serena and Venus obviously have the resumes to be safe picks. Ana has a good track record, and could make it one more round this year. I'd like to see (but don't know if she can) Dinara translate her clay court success to grass. And how great would it be if Lindsay could pull off another Wimbledon title?

I have been avoiding thinking about Wimbledon after the atrocious US Mens showing at the French Open.

On the men's side, I think this may be Djokovic's to win - although you can't rule out Federer, Nadal or even Roddick if the draw is favorable.
For the women, Venus won last year and her and Serena have to be the favorites. I'm curious to see how Ivanovic does under the pressure of being #1 and coming off her French win. Also, don't rule out Safina. She may have turned the corner from Top 10 player to contender for a major with her Finals appearance in Roland Garros. The "wildcard" is Davenport, who says she's ready to play after sitting out since April with an injury. No one wants to get here in their part of the draw.

Not sure if it's gonna be Nadal for the men, but definitely don't think it will be Federer. Though he could prove me wrong there is just no longer any aura of invincibility around him. And that is how he won many of his matches through his dominant era: guys would basically concede points before walking onto the court. NO MORE! Nole could do okay, and Rafa is very match tough right now so let's see how his body holds up. Poor Andy is going to be a bridesmaid again I think. As for the women, who freakin' knows? The results have been so inconsistent and all over the board, it could be anyone's championship. And Venus and Serena definitely don't have a lock on it, though Venus has come up the winner after looking pretty bad in early season play before. No matter who wins I just hope it isn't Shriekapova!

Men: Nadal
Women: Sharapova
Don't see any real surprises there. Only injuries can spoil it for them. It'll be an interesting Wimbledon I guess

Um, I am rooting for Federer. Nadal has a really nice ass, but Roger is the better player on grass if they have to meet again.
For the women. I like Venus or Serena or one of Serbian ladies Ana or Jelena.

WOO HOO! A tennis thread on RJ.
Roger is my pick on the men's side. Until he loses here, I can't pick against him. I felt the same way about Justine at the French. Granted, the aura of invincibility is gone, but ... Novak and Rafa need to prove it to me first.
Roger's draw isn't easy, but I don't see anyone threatening him in his quarter. I think that his 3rd round match against Monfils could be his toughest. If Berdych is on, he could threaten, but Tomas is such a headcase.
Novak gave a handjob to get his EASY draw. I mean ... Safin in the 2nd could be fun if it was the Marat of 2000, but the current version needs an upgrade. I would LOVE to see his quarterfinal opponent ... Baghdatis, Karlovic, Lopez or Fat Nalby. *drools*
Roddick was given a nice draw ... Not like he'll do anything with it. Tursunov/Mahut will be pretty. Blake will bomb out, as usual. Man ... the 3rd quarter blows.
Rafa's 2nd round match should be FUN. Isner/Gulbis gives me a chub thinking about it. GREAT matchup. After the 2nd round, nothing really stands out. Gasquet is all funked up, Murray is carrying tons of pressure, and while Youzhny could threaten ... he is about as reliable as my 1990 Yugo that I paraded around in HS. Times were rough.
With the women ... I just want Lindsay to do well. At least, she was given a nice quarter, aside from the quarterfinal match with Shrieking Sharpie. I hope that, if she gets to the 4th against Safina, she can get some revenge for Miami. V for Vendetta, baby.

Ok I don't think he will win but keep your eyes on Feliciano Lopez (this is not hard to do by the way ) He is playing great (I think 28 aces today) and he has a great position in the draw. I would love to see him get to the semi finals against Novak. That would be some hot tennis.

I refuse to root for Federer or Nadal, they've made men's tennis boring... I'm hoping for Novak for men, and you always have to watch out for Venus on grass...

Round 2 starts tomorrow with no big upsets yet (#4 Dayvdenko and #7 Nalbandian on the Men's side and #12 Schnyder on women's side were the biggest). Good 2nd round matches tomorrow: #5)David Ferrer vs. Igor Andreev #3)Novak Djokovic vs. Marat Safin #10)Marcus Baghdatis vs. Thomas Johnansson American Bobby Reynolds vs. Frank Dancevic (who upset #7 Nalbandian in round 1). Would love to see Safin step up. Can an American man other than Roddick or Blake make the 2nd round? on the women's side: #1) Ana Ivanovic vs. Nathalie Dechy Samantha Stosur vs. #1 Nicole Vaidisova #4) Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Kateryna Bondarenko #14) Agnieska Radwanska vs. Marta Domchowska Vaidisova has seen her ranking drop quickly since her major choke to Ivanovic in last year's Wimbledon. Sveta struggled to get through round 1 and hasn't been playing well the last month or so. Radwanska is one of 3 players to win 3 tournaments this year and just won the Wimbledon tune-up at Eastbourne, so she could be a dark-horse in the tournament. On a side note, Lindsay Davenport won here first round match and, at #25 seed, is another darkhorse in this tournament. She's never lost earlier than the quarters at Wimbledon, and she's in the same quarter as Dementieva and Safina aand Sharapova, so she could make some noise if her knee holds up.

He sure did! Djokovic going out in straight sets leaves the 2nd quarter draw wide open - with #10 Baghdatis the top seed left. Can Safin keep it up and make the semis of Wimbledon, or will Wawrinka finally have a break through tournament?
On a good note for USA Tennis - American Bobby Reynolds advanced to the 3rd Round with a big win over Canadian Frank Dancevic. He's got a decent shot at making the quarters or even semis with Novak's exit...

Top Half of Women's Draw is through to the 3rd round. Only 2 slight upsets - #20 Francesca Schiavone and #28 Alona Bondarenko are out. 3rd Round matchups on Friday as follows: #1) Ana Ivanovic vs. Jie Zheng Anabel Medina Garrigues vs. #15)Agnes Szavay Casey Dellacqua vs. #1 Nicole Vaidisova Evgeniya Rodina vs. # Anna Chakvetadze #4)Svetlana Kuznetsova vs. Barbora Zahlavova Strycova Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs. #14)Agnieszka Radwanska #11)Marion Bartoli vs. USA's Bethanie Mattek #29)Amelie Mauresmo vs. #6)Serena Williams Best match may be the 16-year old Pavlyuchenkova against the red-hot Radwanska - who won Eastbourne and has only dropped 7 games in the first 2 rounds here. Ivanovic and Vaidisova appear headed for a rematch of last year's battle in the quarters. Great to see the American Mattek make the 3rd round. Not sure if she can take Bartoli, but she'll get some attention in that match. I can't see Mauresmo giving Serena much of a challenge. Things are setting up nicely for Serena in her quarter of the draw. She should be in the semis and may be the favorite right now with Ivanovic struggling today.

Poor Djokovic ... One of the ESPN commentators said something interesting. Something like "Djokovic always had respect for Safin. He was the top player for him when he was growing up. But one might wonder if he had too much respect, and was just hoping in the end whether Safin would just give it to him." Someone needs to write a fanfic between these two men

Good pick 10's...I'm hoping Baghdatis takes Warwrinka, but he's been playing poorly most of the year.
Another ridiculously inept showing by Roddick and Blake today. Roddick should be a semifinalist at Wimbledon every year and Blake's running out of time to be more than a winner of an occassional small tournament. US Men's hopes now pinned on Bobby Reynolds. It'd be cool if he can get by Feliciano Lopez tomorrow to make the Round of 16.
On the women's side, I like the draws for both Serena and Venus. Safina/Venus would be a great semifinal match. I think Venus' experience on center court will be the difference. I'm predicting an all-Williams final.
How exciting is it to see the Williams sisters playing doubles again? I'd love to see them do it at the USOpen this year.
England would go nuts if Mirnyi/Murray make the Men's Doubles finals.

lots of shit against sharapova.. I read.. tennis served freshAnd now 20-year-old Russian Alla Kudryavtseva took her dislike of compatriot Maria Sharapova’s elaborate Nike outfit all the way to the winner’s circle. She upset the 2008 Australian Open champ 6-2, 6-4 in the second round.
“I don’t like her outfit,” Kudryavtseva said. “It was one of the motivations to beat her.” WOW! Catty
