Its the perfect symbol of the type of thugs and tyrants that the UN has come to harbor and advance as acceptable.

No. It's just recognizing the death of a head of state. The UN disagrees with plenty the US does but it wouldn't disrespect us by not flying the flag at half-mast if one of our presidents died in office. Further, with Kim Jong Il gone, perhaps there will be an opening to bring North Korea into better relations with the word community. That won't happen if the UN starts off by disrespecting the new head of state's father.

I don't like a lot of what the United Nation does, and I like some of the very good work they do.

The UN is not a country; it is suppose to be a worldly body, a platform for EVERYBODY. The good the bad and the ugly, the bald and.... you guessed it, the beautiful. The very purpose of the UN is to create an environment where even enemies can hold dialogue, not to alienate them further. It isn't the job of the UN to side, it is its job to help reconcile.

Showing respect to a fallen enemy is big in many cultures around the world, it is a sign of chivalry. When Alexander the great was finally able to over throw the Persian Empire he wanted to see the grave of Sirius, King of the Kings, (one of the reasons Alexander grew up to want to rage war against the Persians) one Persian soldier showed him the grave which was considered an act of betrayal by the Persians. Alexander knelled and paid his respects, then killed them man who had betrayed the place of Sirius's grave for betraying the King of the Kings.

In western culture too kicking dirt in someone’s face when he is/she is down USED to be looked down upon. Even kids in high school know, even if they don’t live by it, that it it not very brave or respectable to "talk shit” behind some ones back, when they are no longer there to defend their position. That is not honorable, that is how bullies act.
So I was VERY disappointed to see a Network like CNN which is watched all over the world and is considered America’s news outlet all over the world had a “funny” clip about Kim Jong while his funeral was in procession.
This is not the behavior of a respectable nation, this is immature. It isn’t a sign of strength; it is a clear sign of weakness. Even if the enemy does not show the same amount of restrain towards us, we must! Because it isn’t about them, this says a lot about us and who were are. This is a sign of insecurity!
Even practically speaking this is counterproductive.
I am very disappointed by the juvenile nature of this conversation on a national scale. Where is the honor!!

Seriously? You bring up the honor of a man who kept millions of his people at the brink of starvation while he himself drank high end booze? The UN is an organization made up largely of dictators and despots - and that's why they respect his death. The US has the liberty of a free press - and that's why the press isn't controlled - it's perhaps telling that you would prefer censorship and decorum over freedom and a little "lack of restraint".

Tell the hundreds of thousands if not millions who have died as a result of this tyrant at how offended you are at the lack of "honor".

This is why even Democrats feel the UN is irrelevant.

Had it been around then, the loons at the UN would have flown the flag at half-staff for Mussolini.

Utter nonsense. The UN should be more concerned with disrespecting the millions of Koreans denied human rights and victimized by the Kim family's immoral monomaniacal tyranny.

The North Korean leadership's appetite for imported luxuries, highlighted by three Lincoln limousines at Kim Jong Il's funeral, has spread to growing numbers of the country's elite, despite U.N. sanctions designed to force Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons program.

An examination of U.N. and Chinese trade data reveals that exports to North Korea of products including cars, tobacco, laptops, cellphones and domestic electrical appliances all increased significantly over the last five years. Most items crossed the border from China.

Meanwhile the vast majority of North Koreans starve.

comfort yourself that people who do not tolerate your stupidity are racist if you need to. I cannot say it any clearer why I treat you with such contempt.

I do believe, however, people like you instill racism in others by your behaviour.

So the fool beclowns himself again icon_rolleyes.gif. I've hit reply on this just to ensure that we have your messages on record - perhaps for some later use. Heck this would definitely provide for interesting debate amongst NDP'ers and whether or not they really want a racist and a bigot to represent them publicly like this icon_wink.gif

Lol - paging Christian. So how do you feel about the idea that there are those who blame their bigotry on the victims of their ignorance?

In addition to the extremely nasty comments from Upper_Cdn towards riddler here, he has also made derogatory comments how those of us in the US demonstrate our patriotism.http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/2093593

He was so proud http://www.realjock.com/gayforums/1866724 of being recognized by the KickAssCanadian website, http://kickasscanadians.ca/ it might be interesting if they were sent a digest of his rants here. If amanda@amandasage.ca saw this, his ass might get kicked right off the site. No TOS violation as it is from threads, not private correspondence.

I note that the bigot is too embarrassed to respond. I wonder if he realizes how much he's ridiculed even by those he would consider to be allies. Even Christian has called his comments racist. Of course that's charitable given how absurdly childish his comments have become.

BTW - I have copied his comments here and his derogatory comments about how those of us in the US express our patriotism. In case the threads get deleted, we'll still have the evidence. As you said, his political party associates might be interested.

    Riddler said to ozhanSean,

"Seriously? You bring up the honor of a man who kept millions of his people at the brink of starvation while he himself drank high end booze? "

Er, he brought up the honour of everyone else, not Jong.

It's a bit remarkable that those like meninlove and Christian are so ably willing to condone the deliberately racist reductionist comments of UpperCanadian. Maybe what they say is true about scratching a liberal...

You made no further comment particularly given his belief that he revealed here that victims are racism apparently are the cause of racism because of their behavior.
