There isn't that many great clubs. There use to be Cherry back in the day. It was the best. It was the Studio 54 of Los Angeles just not as over the top, but awesome. Celebs would come all the time.

Here is my list of clubs and their scene.

Abbey - Young 20 something crowd. Open outdoor space, great drinks. Very packed. Some older men trying to be 20 again. Can be pretentious.

Revolver - Re-opened video bar update. 35+ crowd, easy going, laid back, great drinks, strippers. All new remodel. Mature handsome crowd. icon_wink.gif

Mickeys - Fairly remodeled club with strippers. 18-40 crowd. Drinks are decent. Gets busy.

Here - Fun 20-40 crowd, open and indoor space. Mostly jocked theme, nights very from theme. Drinks are pretty good. Can be pretentious too.

Fubar - Bar, with strong drinks, lot's of strippers that like to show more than their ass at times. icon_biggrin.gif More edgy crowd, not as hipster as the rest. Little more dirtier.

Rage - Dance and stripper bar, 18+ crowd and cocktails with outdoor area too. Just ok. Haven't been there in 10 years.

Cabo Cantina - Mexican inspired cantina with strong drinks and horrible bar food. Has an upstairs roof deck that is sometimes open. 20 something crowd.

Funny...that's kind of how I feel about it as well...escaped, but thank GOD I lived to tell the tale. icon_eek.gif

As for "Best Club in L.A." for New Year's or any other time -- I don't really think that can be determined because there are so many choices and a lot depends on the type of "scene" you want. If it's the circuit boy crowd, there is usually a gigantic event going on (usually downtown at The Mayan) that will suit that taste. All the other major clubs like FACTORY, ABBEY, and all the others will be having smaller scale events that will all be packed. Just pick up one of the Fag Rag Mags along Santa Monica -- all the major parties and clubs will have full page ads in them. It's pretty much a crap shoot as to which one will be the best. There will be no shortage of options. The fact that REVOLVER has reopened is proof positive that OLD is always NEW again eventually. Maybe start there.

"Fag Rag Mags " I like that.

I will say that after a year and a half here, I'll be glad to get back out there.

I’m not sure if its dealing with my mom’s Alzheimer’s that’s been so taxing, and it has, or it’s just that we haven’t much of a scene here anymore. It’s so queer here that it’s long been so assimilated that we’ve lost our couple of big bars and now it’s a shitload of smaller places where the crowd is mixed.
