So, my mother is turning 50 and 5 days later I'm turning 25. For her birthday, she wants to do a triathlon with me. We're trying to figure out which one to do in the Michigan, Ohio, Indiana area, any suggestions? Preferably around the middle of May.

With that being said. does anyone have any good triathlon training regimens or workouts they go by? I'd love some guidance!

    Try beginner triathlete

They will have plans set up to beginner triathletes, a good forums to help you build a support system, great training tips, etc.

    Good luck.
Triathlon is a great sport and the people that compete in them are some of the best people around.

Pick up a copy of The Triathlete's Training Bible by Joe Friel. And look for a sprint triathlon to start. At a 1/4 mile swim, 9-18 mile ride and 3.1 mile run, the distances are very approachable. Most folks panic about the swim, but in the grand scheme of the race, the time you spend on the swim is minuscule compared to the ride or the run. Good luck and have fun and prepare to get addicted!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I already know I can do the sprint triathlon, the one I was looking at is a step above it.

I've swam a mile non-stop before, and I generally run 5+ miles a day, so I know I can do that.

I have 5 months of training ahead of me still, so I'd like to have something to work up to.

    Thanks guys!

    I found a good plan that's basically:

run, bike, run/bike, off, run, bike, run/bike

Might want to include some swimming in that workout plan. icon_smile.gif

Good luck on the race with your mom! That'd be awesome to do, but none of my family are as crazy as I am and wouldn't ever do a triathlon. My sister and I have done running races together though.

I just know triathlons around the DC area and the surrounding states, so I'm no help on finding ones near MI.

Yeah, I want to swim but no access to a pool, sorta sucks, and I don't really have the money to buy a membership to another gym.
