Talking about welfare programs at an Iowa campaign stop on Sunday, the Republican presidential candidate was quoted as saying, “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them someone’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money.”

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/01/04/santorum-on-controversial-remark-i-was-tongue-tied/?hpt=hp_bn3

“It was probably a tongue-tied moment as opposed to something that was deliberate,” Santorum said, adding that he has watched the video several times and still can’t clearly hear the word.

Here, YOU watch and listen.. Its as clear as day! What a fucking liar.

So what, it's a non issue. He could have said any race and it would have been the same message. It's just another way of saying to teach someone how to fish instead of giving them a fish that only lasts for one meal.

Rip him up with something worthwhile.

But yes, he is lying, he clearly said "black peoples'".

Even if he did say it, What's the problem?

He clearly wants to roll back some of Lyndon Johnson’s ‘Great Society’ programs that have clearly made certain problems worse.

I'm clearly not seeing what the problem is here?

Given the words, "President Santorum" wouldn't be uttered even in an alternative universe, it really matters not one iota.

But I soooo wanted, just this ONE time, to "spread" Santorum some credit.

Alas, he started out with that "Waiting for Superman -- I had THAT on the brain, that has black people in it, right?" excuse first, well before he (and/or his managers) concocted the "Black? Oh no, wait! I just said Blaaaaaaa!" excusplanation.

So that fecal matter doesn't fly with me. Not like my vote hinges on that anyway. What is he gonna do, lose MORE credit with me? Is that even possible?

Chris Rock's "That Train is NEVER Late!" standup piece comes to mind.

I think you all need to get your robes and hoods out of the cleaners. What Santorum said is despicably racist. Not only did he assert that black people are on welfare, when the majority of welfare recipients were white, he then doubled down and said we have to "bring manufacturing back" so black people can find jobs. From Santorum's perspective it seems that black people can't compete in the new economy.

His comment was probably just a response to the fictitious idea that republicans/conservatives are not in favor of "helping" black people and therefore that makes them racist. Politicians should not be trying to help specific groups but rather all Americans as a whole. (But to be clear, I don't consider him a good example of a "conservative" in the way I look at it but he is a religious/social conservative.)

    1. He's a fundie, a catholic fundie who appeals to evangelicals heavily. Fundies aren't racist at all if you've actually been in their circles (I have, trust me). They are overwhelmingly into multiculturalism for Jesus and adopting ethnic children from abroad and sympathetic with african and other countries that demonize gay people (they are like liberal do-gooders in a lot of things but anti-gay). In fact, whites are dying off in most denominations and the younger generations are leaving churches and religion and being replaced by blacks and hispanics and asians by the droves.
    2. Racists are generally not very religious because Jesus loved all the children red yellow black or white. If they are racist they are rather private about it.

Santorum is not racist, he's a big government conservative who wants to get into everybody's bedroom.

Guys.. the OBJECT of this post wasn't the 'black' comment.. it was santorum's DENIAL of it when it is CLEARLY spoken and recorded.

Many people, including those Santorum cites, don't think they have any responsibility for sustaining themselves and this country. Providing the ability to earn income, e.g. the ability to fish, does not enslave the individual and the nation to ssustain lifelong support for the individual.

Ha, never pegged you for a racist, Tom....elitist, out of touch, oblivious, but not racist.

Guess you learn something every day. (Wish it was more useful info, lol.)

And Santorium is campaigning to be President of all Americans, no? --or is it just for the whites??

I think it's remarkable just how racist - albeit sometimes unconsciously - so many conservaposse members are. icon_rolleyes.gif

You all, lets just face it, Santorum's Ideology is so stringent, so strict, so rigid and uptight that as one writer said of him that 'Santorum is so up tight that if he had a needle up his ass a tractor tied to it couldn't pull it out' LOL !!!

He cannot help but let his rigidity shine through and it extends to his opinion of blacks and the poor in general, I doubt he even thought of what he was saying as even in the realm of racist, in his little small minded world he cannot figure out what all the fuss is about. We're just seeing who he is, a religiously rigid Fundi that has absolutely no business in any government office of any kind making decisions for civil society. He's much better suited for a Priests Robe listening to confessions and out of the public spectrum.

I think the problem is that poor people come in every colour.
So is he willing to give white poor people and asian poor people more money but deciding black people should do with less to spur them into productivity?

    It's optics.
