I just saw on the manhunt thread about five guys who were all complaining about living in SC.... preach ON, brother! I know what you mean! I have a place in the country outside of Columbia and a condo in Columbia. It is very, very hard to be openly gay here. As I stated before, the only negative about the South Carolina Gay Community is that it predominantly lives in NYC, Atlanta and San Fransisco.

You guys want to get together for drinks or dinner one night? Let's have a SC RJ meeting! Not looking for hookups or anything... just some laughs and get to know each other in person.

    Anyone interested?

Why does everyone except San Francisco have meet ups?

I need to get out of this unfriendly no gay man town!

I'll probably be in Greenville and Charleston for a few days in late Jan or early Feb. I'd love to join in if the dates overlap.

I have lived here for 17 years and have some gay friends. I guess Columbia is like most places: if you aren't model pretty and don't have a porn star body most guys are not interested. I'd be interested in a gathering, and could probably round up some friends to attend.

Good luck though. I hope you can get a good group of guys together.

We could get some NC guys together and meet you all at South of the Border. About time that place got a little gay on. icon_lol.gif

South of the Border is truly one of the most repulsive places I've ever been. Everything there is inauthentic, and not in that "isn't this fun?" way, but rather in a sort of dejected, sad, "are we having fun yet?" kind of way.

Anyone who doesn't know the difference between "isn't this fun?" and "are we having fun yet?" deserves to have to go to South of the Border every day. No, wait, they deserve to WORK there.
Never been, personally. But the tacky kind of permeates the environs along I-95, doesn't it?

Short of a mass gay redecoration party, I think I'll take your word for it. icon_lol.gif

Never started any manhunt threads, and I recently deleted my A4A, manhunt, and lifeout accounts in one sitting.
It sucks here, absolutely! I'm stuck in Goose Creek, just 10 miles North of Charleston, and it's the pits. One of the hook ups I had ended up in the woods, and another was behind a small building in a financial area. Not classy or convenient. The guys were nice; though both were cheating on their spouses. One a woman, the other his life partner... thanks for telling afterwards >(
I can't wait to move to a friendlier, more self respecting region of the country. I can't believe they hold Pride Parades here condoning such a low level of Pride and Self Respect? Barnacles!

It's not the best picture of gay friendly-progression either. Not familiar with Columbia, but am sure Charleston isn't anything to write friends about, unless they're just passing through and want to get laid on the way out.

    I lived in Portland maine.

The biggest difference is that the "christian" contingent of the population is neutralized by the goth youth culture and the influx of New Yorkers and Bostonians.

The parallel between "rural" states is dominate through out the country, as I've lived near Branson, Mo, too (Geezusss, talk about cult freak christianity.)

The other factors common are low incomes, high drug use, wacko legal systems that disadvantages (if not preys on) against poor people and gay men, and very extreme differences in educational levels.

In all, I find SC a very beautiful place to be. I don't live there. i do visit there.

I've lived all over the country, and I have to tell you quite honestly, gay live in SC is no different than any other state in the Union. It's all up to you and how close you want to live near a metropolitan area.

    That's my 2 cents
