Curious.. what sort of man bag do you have? Is it a backpack? A clutch? A murse? A fanny pack?

I have a laptop bag. But I use it to carry my laptop and work related stuff. So not really a man bag I guess.

Gum, a bottle of water, bars, pens, band-aids, an umbrella, USB cables for my phone/iPod, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, lip balm.

Those are the essentials, but I often carry a notebook and/or my laptop and stuff like that. I have a Jack Spade messenger bag, but I'm looking for a good tote.

Gum, mints, lip balm, sunglasses case, umbrella, pen, note pad or sticky notes, check book, stamps, address labels, aspirin, and I'll also toss my cell phone and my ipod into my messenger bag.

    wallet
whatever book I'm reading - currently The Water is Wide, Pat Conroy
    pen
today's paper, mostly for the crossword and sudoku
yesterday's paper, in case I didn't finish its puzzles yet
phone charger if I'm out all day

Otherwise, I'm pretty pocket-proficient. I usually only carry a bag in the summer when I want to walk somewhere and veg out for a couple of hours. Normally I just use a drawstring bag, but on days that I gig, my bag is my tuba case.

This sounds more like the list of, "what do I have in my car?" Since I'm rarely without my car, I think my car is my safety blanket rather than a bag.

But when I take a day trip downtown or to the gayborhood, I do grab either a messenger bag or a backpack and load it up.

    Car
    Gum
    Bottle of water
    Snacks/soda for longer drives
    Digital camera
    AA batteries for camera
    Flashlight
    12V chargers for both phones
    First aid kit
    Bach's rescue remedy
    Umbrella
    Snow brush w/ice scraper
    Sticky notes
    3 pens
    Gloves
    Duct tape
    Emergency condoms
Extra clothes (sweatshirt, t-shirt, socks, gym shorts)
    Spare checkbook
    Kleenex

    Bag
    Netbook & cord
    Digital camera
    Gum
    Bottle of water
    AC charger for my Android
    Emergency condoms
    Sticky notes & pen
Hoodie for when it gets cooler at night
T-shirt in case I sweat like mad or spill something and need to change shirts

Cargo pants/shorts can handle most of the stuff if I don't want to have my netbook with me.

I was gonna start a "pocket archaeology" thread, which i'm still gonna do, so don't think you thought of it first. icon_evil.gif

n/e way, on a normal day:

    in my pants:
    wallet
    iphone
    iphone accessories (earbuds, glif, square)
    leatherman
pens (one ballpoint, one or two sharpies)
    bandana
    folding cheaters (STFU)
    some keys

    in my coat:
    ear plugs
    gloves
    sunglasses
    dog snax
    more keys
usually a wrench or pruning shears or something

somewhat different stuff, if I'm going to town

My messenger bag normally has wallet items (license, card, cash, bar memberhsips etc.), keys, cologne, lighter, journal, pen, and gum.

I typically keep my cell phone in my pocket.

Wallet, cell phone, keys. Chap stick in the winter.

If I can't fit it in my pockets then I don't need it.

Silly question, but what size of bag are we talking about?

    Briefcases and messenger bags?

Or are we talking what some consider as "man purses" or murses?

    I use a mini backpack a la Assassin's Creed.

    Mine has:

    Mini-Taser

    Two extending batons

    Two butterfly knives

Snack type thing (granola bar, jerky, etc)

Solar Charger, charging wires for ipod and iphone

toothbrush, toothpaste, body wash, body spray (all in travel size)

    PSP and charger

    Red and Blue photon lights

Glasses case (I hate my glasses so I wear them when I have to)

Mini travel card (It's like a swiss army knife but it's in the form of a plastic card, it's awesome)

Ghetto plastic disposable poncho (yeah i thought it was trashy at first until i got caught in a bad storm, it totally saved my phone and me from pneumonia)

    Water bottle

    Pen

    Gum

I have a wallet chain so that's always in my back pocket but my stuff comes in at around 10lbs give or take.

    *edit*

Looking at other peoples I should really replace my first aid kit. I forget I am running around without alcohol wipes and bandages...

Wallet, cell phone, comb and keys, maybe my sunglasses on a cord around my neck if it's sunny out. And that's about it. For the last few months I've also carried a Spanish fan, sometimes thought of as an Oriental fan. It's to cool me when my hot flashes & sweats hit me, a consequence of my cancer treatment. But that's only temporary.

Other than that, I tend to be minimalist. A man doesn't carry a lot of crap with him -- that's a female trait.

I don't think carrying stuff with you is a "female trait"-- I think that it's called being prepared and some of us younger people have jobs that we must constantly be prepared for so we always have to have things with us.

I have a canvas Canadian Carryall, for when I'm in Canada. Here in Texas I have an F-150. So, I guess, spare tire, jumper cables, gum.
