In the broadest, general sense....to include bj's (giving/getting), coitus, etc.....
I am running a race Saturday morning....will I need to forgo any type of sex on friday to keep my run at peak?
    Thanks.

You should have a little 'sumthin-sumthin' waiting for you at the finish line.

When you cross that finish line you the Chariots of Fire theme should be playing.icon_twisted.gif

I find that an endorphin release the night before is a good thing. Just don't have a prolonged sex session or j/o session. Keep it quick, focusing on the climax and release. You'll rest better and thus in that morning perform better.

I cant see why not. It the searching for sex that is the problem. Spending all nite looking for sex partner cause you not to have enough rest. I always make sure I masturbate myself before a marathon. It make me sleep better and get up refresh. If I have a sex partner, I definitely will indulge.

This would be the best concept!

Runner's World recently did an article on this...their consensus?

Does sex before competition hurt your running?
Not tonight honey, I'm racing tomorrow. It's an ancient excuse--literally--dating back to Ikkos of Tarentum, who swore off sex for months leading up to the Olympic Games of 44 BC. (On the upside, Ikkos won the Pentathlon.) But chances are you won't exert enough energy to tap into your reserves. "Ten minutes of sex burns 50 to 60 calories on average, equivalent to walking a half mile," says Tommy Boone, Ph.D., author of Sex Before Athletic Competition: Myth or Fact. Even better, sex could possibly improve your performance. "There is anecdotal evidence that it has a positive effect," says Boone. "If sex helps you relax, reduces your anxiety, and helps you sleep, then why would you give it up? You could be worse off not doing it." Now there's a new way to get a little faster.

So the moral of the story is...Get off, but again do it quickly, that way you're not wasting ALL of your pre-race energy.

    Good luck!

Hey Sporty...good luck man. Be sure to tell us which decision you made, do it or not! And whether you felt it had any affect on your race.

Go get 'em bud! Good luck!!!

I had always been told that "holding it in" or "not performing a week" before any sports activity was untrue. I say DO IT!

"Beat it tonight, you'll beat THEM tomorrow; Eat it tonight and they'll beat YOU tomorrow" was the advice of my old water polo coach in college. He advocated staying away from women the night before a game. Poor guy never guessed some of the team stayed away from women anyway!

Thanks for the comments...I decided to relax and not engage in ANY sex nor even going out the night before...and turned in my best time ever for this race!
Yes it is a 5K, but I have never done very well at it, so I was pleased with my results......

    I finished in 74th place, ID#584 Name=Gary Penn HomeTown=Powell TIME=26:27 PACE=8:31/mile

The results page for the run are here....
    http://www.premierraces.com/Results08/RunForPride.txt

    I feel GREAT!

I spoke to the guy that won...Dillon. He is a 20-something, good looking, but doesn't look all that athletic or anything. He has won this 5k for the past 3 years....he said he does very little actual training and just runs very little and very casually...it is just kinda natural for him.....he said his big training for this or any run is a few wind sprints the week before and that's it! I hate natural athletes....young, hung, in shape and don't have to work for it! GOD, to be so blessed!icon_lol.gif

Funny that you said that, because I almost forgot to mention it....because I DID ASK HIM and a couple of others there... They said that it didn't make any difference to them, but was usually about 30 seconds faster if they HAD SEX the night before the race...so I guess it helps to get the stress out the night before and have a good run!icon_cool.gif
