I've never had any desire to visit Utah. I'm not even a winter sports enthusiast, so I can't be bothered to go.

Well, its the cities you'd expect to see on a list of gay meccas in the US, but I'm surprised at No. 1. Good for SLC.

LOL, I guess things have changed in SLC over the years. I never tried being openly gay there but...

I was at a meeting in SLC one week when the Dead came to town. The TV stations were all in major crisis mode. Dramatic music. Lead in... "Tonight there are DRUGS in Salt Lake City!!!!!!!!!" Actual story: video of some mellow kids playing hacky-sack. Then interviews with police and city officials on how they were handling "the crisis."

Also, everyone around town seemed very unfriendly and unwilling to talk to me. Until finally I saw the news and realized (I had no idea - nor any prior knowledge of the concert) that I was wearing a tie-dyed shirt.

Imperial Court? Is that even done any more? Do young gays even know what it is, without researching it online? I think the Advocate is losing touch with the gay community.

Salt Lake is pretty fucking gay. SO MANY FUCKING HOT GUYS THERE. A lot of the DL, though. Pride there is actually bumpin'.

I love Canada to death, but I will forever miss the crazy amount of awesome ass to be found in SLC.

I'm surprised Bumfuck didn't make it to the top yet again this year!

But from what I hear, it's a really remote hard to find place that no one ever really goes to, so I doubt there are many people who live there anyway, let alone gay people or WNBA teams or international Mr. Leather semifinalists, or Imperial Court chapters (whatever that is).

I'm definitely going to have to check out Salt Lake City during Pride weekend. Sounds like it'd be interesting. icon_biggrin.gif

I'm sorry, but any list where San Francisco doesn't even grace the top 10 of the gayest cities in America is automatically invalid. icon_rolleyes.gif

Some are hot Mormons, but don't play with them. Make them suffer without butsex for supporting a gay-hating institution and playing behind their families' backs.

DL = downlow, and I just realized the sentence I used it in from my last post didn't make sense because of a typo. While lots are loud and proud, quite a few hotties still keep their business private to avoid societal judgement (because it is very judg-y there).

Being from Grand Rapids, MI, I find it incredibly hard to believe it is even close to being 10th. Unless the gay scene/population has exploded in the two years since I moved, I can't buy into it. It is a highly conservative/republican city. :-

Salt Lake City is awesome to visit.
Nice to see Iowa City got a nod as well, despite it's falling.

I like the wide range of gay cliques the Advocate tried to include. Very cool that a lil bit of everyone was taking into consideration.

All in all, i think it was pretty fair

I don't agree with this. I live in SLC and can't find a guy around here for shit!

And on a side note, aside from "Mormon models", there aren't that many good looking Mormon guys.

I think with an abbreviation of SL.UT it has to be the gayest city.

FYI, media properties know that any list of the "Top N" things always get the most hits. Just look at Huffpo, the supermarket trashloid of the left. It's 50% "top10 celebrites whose tits look like cupcakes" kind of raw sewage.

They don't give a shit how the list is chosen. It could be done by monkeys, it doesn't matter. Readers lap it up like ravenous dogs.

This thread is a perfect illustration. We're nattering on about a random piece of journalistic shit that was written to serve as link bait, and clearly it worked.

"Divided by Population within City Limits".

Heck, why don't they just divide by population within COUNTY limits. That would knock San Francisco off the list. We all know that San Francisco simply CANT be gay enough for this list. Where's NYC? Oh no! NYC simply is not gay enough to make the list.

Heck, let's just get a few IML contestants from Bozeman and start an Imperial Court chapter there and Bozeman will be at the top of the list.

    hahaha!

Shit. Just divide by zero already.

I have to disagree with this, I live pretty close to Mesa, Az a HUGE mormon population and most the gay ex-mormons I know are pretty hot.

I'm glad to see my home city of Kansas City break the top 25! KC is sorta unusual cuz it doesn't have a "Gay District" KC's gay clubs/bars are throughout the city.
