I don't know when this happened, but I found it on my facebook newsfeed today. Today is also when classes began at the university.

These are large sculptures throughout the UC Davis campus.

Here's one right outside of the main library.

If it were just randon spraying or graffiti I would assume that it's only vandalism, but someone might be making a comment on pepper spray or on the pieces themselves. Maybe an art student or an embittered faculty member? ( yea some teachers are screwy, even in the art dept ) .

At least in California there's the possibility of content. I take art classes at the local U here and it's always the fraternities just painting nipples or pubes on nudes. We've got some pieces that have been strip-cleaned so many times they are starting to look like embryos or amorphous terds.

There's this one statue, sort of a Nike of Victory, I guess, and the hands are fashioned in such a way that the frat boys can fit a beer can nicely in one and place a cigar butt in the fingers of the other.

It's a statement about the pepper spray incident last semester. That's pretty clear, isn't it?
