Anyone going to the gym between 4 and 9 pm this month?

So I forget New Years is still in full effect. I went to the gym at 5 pm, rush hour traffic. Prime time.

There's 2 gyms in the area that I go to, one is always more packed than the other. But I went to the one that's usually only a handful of people even during prime time. I go in, every friggin elliptical/crossramp machine was taken. And I was wearing my flat-footed Pumas which aren't suited for treadmill running.

The workout area was equally packed up, with most machines being used up. You almost have to stand behind someone to get to one.

I still got my workout on, but I skipped a couple exercises (partly too because I kind of fell back all last week). It's great to see the gym all packed and what not, but sometimes I feel when things are so jam packed...it won't take long before someone gets impatient, says something stupid, and gets punched (not that I would do or suggest that LOL). So I try to avoid during those packed times.

I guess I'll attempt to get back to my summer schedule: be done with my workout by 3 pm, 4 at the latest. But I been waking up at 1 and 2 pm since New Year's Eve....and takes me about 2 hours to really get going. I probably won't break this cycle until my next road trip in 2 weeks where I wake at the crack of dawn.

I hate this time of year. I didn't get to the gym until 10 last night and it was still packed! People everywhere who don't know what the hell they're doing. Annoys the hell out of me.

I'm going. Luckily it doesn't seem too bad yet.

    It's post-Christmas guilt. And I can relate!

It's always congested at this time of year.... I avoid Mondays as well, hopefully it won't be too bad this evening when I head to the YMCA for my usual workout....

I do hope some of the "resolutioners" are successful. We do need to show some patience.

Parking can be a bitch, however.....

It's a nightmare... my buddy texted me yesterday from the gym saying, "OMG the gym is packed. All these New Years Resolutions need to give up already and go back to being fat. They're just milling around in the gym like livestock."

The toons next to me on the squat rack were some randoms I'd never seen before and were literally just hanging out there, draped over the machine, chatting like it was the library or something.

Very annoying. You can easily look and see who the serious ones are and who the pretenders are.

I came up with a system and schedule that has worked well for the last the 3 years now. It begins Dec 27 and lasts thru til Feb 17. I already alternate my gym days so all I do is alternate my gym time during these months. The way it's worked out is great because every time I've managed to avoid the crowds of New Year fitness wannabe's no matter what time of day.

It's the only time I can work out right now... so I'm working out at home. Thank God for the annoying Mr. Horton and Company!

I've noticed my gyms have already started to quiet down- there's a noticeable difference between this week and last. I wish people the best with their goals, but realistically, it'll all be back to normal by the end of this month.

I go after 9 and so far it has not been awful. It gets pretty quiet at that time with mostly the same core group of guys.

I go at 5:30. Lots of new fattties an old people. Its like this until mid Feb when they finally give up. There has been some new cock to check out in the locker room which is nice, but not worth the trade off.

I hate this time of year for this very reason... all those people who you KNOW are just wasting space and won't be there for more than 4-6 weeks.

But I go at 8 pm, and by then it's mostly the same guys who are always there, I know them all, and there are only a few of the new years types who won't be around for long.

I'm a little more conflicted on this. I hate it because they fill the gym and I know most won't be there very long, but on the other hand, I WAS one of those people years ago and I have kept with it for 7 years now without planning on stopping. Even if a couple of them dramatically change their lives maybe it is worth dealing with it (as ridiculously annoying as it is).

I just took a moment to read each comment above me here. ALL True! I see them every year - all the "new outfits" and "new shoes" and for women - - - matching jewelry. Tennis bracelets are back, and just the right earrings. Lavender sweat suits are back - and if you can get just a touch of lavender trim on the shoes - it makes a nice ensemble. Just delightful. The most pitiful thing I saw was a wimpy twink whose MOM was leading him around the gym. All they were doing was taking up space TALKING about exercise physiology, for God's sake! I felt like saying, "Excuse me - - - please get the HELL OUT!!

Except for a few, looks like all the resolution people at my gym have given up already. Yay!!

I go in the morning, everyone seems to get in, do what they need to do, and get out.

I'm not going to the gym. I'm taking advantage of the really nice summer weather and doing more outdoor cardio. I'm going to wait until the resolutioners get distracted so I can get back in and do weights icon_biggrin.gif

This year, I'm noticing that all the new years newbies...are the same people I saw last January-March, who vanished the minute the weather warmed.

I went at 4:00 PM and it was the most bizarre thing... almost completely empty. I don't know if there was something going on, but it was very strange!! It's been packed lately.

I always say that all of the sign-ups around this time of the year are the reason why our memberships are low!!!

I moved gyms just before Xmas... people are looking at me like I'm fresh meat and they haven't decided if I'm worth investing a pleasantry in, or if I'll be gone in a month :0(

While I completely understand the frustrations now - I have to say - reading all this makes me so glad I decided to start in the summer. Fat version of me would have been so intimidated by this that he would have given up.

I do hope a few make it through.
