I was introduced to it some 30 years ago, and I think of it whenever there's a winter chill in the air, like we just had here last week.

All you need to do is make hot chocolate or cocoa, and add some peppermint schnapps. It's like drinking a chocolate candy cane. I use a German imported 100-proof schnapps, but others will do, add as much as you want to get the kick you like.

A nice thing to drink as you snuggle with your hunny on a cold night. icon_wink.gif

Sounds awesome I got to try it as soon as it gets cold enough here to wear a jacket.

I'm with Art_Deco on this one. Go for the 100-proof, otherwise it's not going to have much bite (or flavor, really) to it. So good!

I had it for the first time in Gimmelwald, Switzerland(one of my favorite places on the planet) where it's called a Heidi. Not sure if that's where it originated. It's the perfect thing to sip while looking at the Alps.

haha my friends always convince me to take a shot of that at the bars...I forget how awful it tastes. Reminds me of drinking toothpaste. It gets the job done though!

What?! I don't even need a chaser for it. My friends and I considered changing our majors in college to Rumple Minze or Fireball. (I also recommend Fireball whisky, not for this drink, but just generally.)

When I first had it served to me in a restaurant, in San Antonio, Texas of all places, there was a candy cane in it, along with whipped cream on top. icon_biggrin.gif

That drink is called a Snuggler. I began liking Snugglers when I first started skiing, in my high school years. They help warm you up so you can get back out to the slopes. Not too many though, you don't want to slam into any trees.

Several spirits go well with hot cocoa.

Apart from mint schnapps like this Finn:

I'd also warmly recommend Cognac, dark rhum and Cointreau.

I drink according to my doctor's guidance. For the most recent med I started taking, Uribel (you can Google it), my doctor told me that alcohol was permitted.

So I went down to Key West after beginning this new med, and had a gin martini. My piss turned dark brown! Blue-green is the normal reaction, and I almost panicked, thinking I was bleeding or something. I refrained from gin, and my pee went back to green.

So a week later I saw this doctor again, and I told him that gin should never be taken with Uribel. He laughed, and said he had never heard of that reaction. Well, I assured him, gin & Uribel don't mix, and you need to tell your other patients that, unless you want them pissing dark brown.

My doctors know exactly what I drink, and nothing I drink isn't approved by them. Rather, I'm the one who tells them when unusual results occur.

Deco is defending his drinking! This is a health and fitness site and anyone who is serious about fitness will be avoiding alcohol. Take what Deco says with A GRAIN OF SALT since he has no faith in his doctors and has posted this mistrust of his doctors--- in all probablility--he is telling lies! Jesus, you're tiresome.

Dean_Aane has some kind of pathological obsession with attacking me. Tiresome is more than an understatement.

    =============

THIS TROLL attacked me first and my only obsession is to not let his LIES go unnoticed.
This is a health and fitness site and why a nasty alcoholic is permitted to flit around as he pleases is a real mystery. WHY? Does not make sense.

When I was in high school the first thing I ever drank was peppermint schnapps to the the point of becoming very ill. To this day, I can't even have a candy cane or chew a stick of peppermint flavored gum without the memories of that time making me sick to my stomach.

So try it! Nothing could be simpler, just a splash of peppermint schnapps into some hot chocolate or cocoa. The taste is very much like melting a candy cane in hot chocolate.

Sick flashbacks can be a bitch. Once I was coming down with the flu as a child, when we were eating spare ribs and sauerkraut at home. For years afterwards I would get dry heaves just looking at sauerkraut. I got over it in my 30s.

Another time I was sipping Drambuie at the Officer's Club, again just as I was coming down with the flu. I vomited my guts out, and later would become ill at the mere smell of Drambuie for the next 20 years. Thanks gawd I finally got over that one, too.

When I was in Africa in 2010, I was introduced to a drink called a
    Springbok
    equal parts:
    Amarula Creame liquor
    Peppermint Schnapps

Very nice, but don't have too many,

    Also:

    Amarula Creame & Hot Chocolate,
Very nice on a rainy colder evening in Africa.
The poor bartender could not keep up to our group that night.
