I'm just curious what's the best thing to eat after swimming. I usually have a sandwich with deli meat and peanut butter. What do you guys usually eat after a swim for optimal performance? Thanks!

It's weird, but after swimming or diving, I cannot eat any kind of deli meat or cheese sandwich. They just make me want to blow chunks, even if it's something that I'd ordinarily enjoy. Peanut butter / jam / chocolate are my apres-aqua staples. I usually keep some snickers bars in my dive bag - the only time I ever eat them.

Would a protein bar be wise after a swim?

i usually have a protein shake and a subway double stacked turkey breast sandwich, swimming makes me super hungry. it's different for everyone but what you wanna do is eat high quality foods and have something fast enough to replenish your systems with proteins and carbs kinda like post-workout gym routines depending on your body's needs and goals.

I'm biased towards naturally derived foods.

For me it's a protein bar, usually a big dinner or meal depending on when it is.. I always have some trail mix with lots of fruit in the swim bag too.

I always have a huge craving for fruit, so normall its 2 apples or a bag of grapes lol. And No I don't eat the whole bag. Though it seems like i could. Doing a good 4000m stroke building workout makes me eat like a starved wolf.

I try to eat some kind of sports bar right after swimming to help speed recovery. The type (carb vs. protein) depends on where I am in my training cycle. Sometimes it takes a while for my stomach to settle so I can eat a bigger meal, especially after a brutal sprint workout.

I swim 1000 yards every other day - and usually afterward I eat a couple of hand fulls of almonds - and about a cup of plain yogurt, and some pineapple.
