I see this in so many peoples profiles and I'm trying to figure out what it actually suggests. Here a list of possible implications:

    1 - x likes nature
    2 - x is very short
    3 - x spends little time daydreaming
    4 - x is impulse oriented
    5 - x is hairy(?)
    6 - x is not flamboyant (straight-acting)
    7 - x has a fairly stable personality
    8 - x has a small vocabulary
9 - x is content with their small pasture in life (humble-ish)

    (found in down-to-earth threads)

10 - x has lived long enough to understand how things are
    11 - x is too lazy to uniquely self-describe
12 - x is good at casual friendliness
13 - x is good at casual friendliness, but only to those on similar status level (i.e. wealth, attractiveness, ect.)
    14 - x is fat (I guess)
15 - x is providing a false image of genuineness to hide their emotional baggage
    16 - x prefers to avoid drama
    17 - x is a liar
18 - x's actions speak louder than their words
19 - x is friendly to the help
20 - x wishes to be perceived as normal
    21 - x is a vegan (perhaps)
    22 - x is not a stuck up cunt
23 - x is serious about social and/or filial responsibilities
    24 - x lacks imagination
    25 - x is practical, utilitarian
26 - x does not do their fair share of the work
27 - x wants to be liked in an uncomplicated way

So, my question is. What does the phrase imply when you read it?

Down to earth means humble, polite, not jaded. But if you see it in a gay profile, it means they're only humble/polite to attractive guys, and douchebags to others. icon_lol.gif

It means they have a level head and aren't likely to nit-pick other people's profiles for not being Pulitzer prize winning works of literary art. icon_lol.gif

(Seriously, people, not everyone is a great writer. Most people hate writing profiles. Don't be so judgmental.)

I have no intiative or creativity to individualize my response from Ariodante's.

He is often in my head and better able to articulate my thoughts anyway. And he has better biceps than I do.

    So I will just +1

The topic wasn't meant to condescend on the people who use the phrase to self-describe, but it's common and vague and has to have a variety of interpretations. It you'd like, I'm sure there's a "would you fuck the guy above you" thread somewhere. icon_biggrin.gif

Down to earth It means that they aren't trying to idolize themselves in their profile. lol jk. I think i wrote something like that in my profile. To me its like a way of thinking. Being down to earth is someone who doesn't make up bullshit in their head and try to project that in real life. Takes life as its dished and doesn't try to make things more complicated than it is. Takes the punches and might lose the round but wins the fight.

It's not about being a great writer. It's about employing effective and engaging communication skills, one of the most indispensable life necessities. That and giving a damn about making the profile engaging to others and not 2 lines of buzz phrases.

All the profiles I have seen with this never even respond to me, so they are obviously not as down to earth and cool with everyone like they say

Just be honest and frickin write:

I am cool but I won't respond to you if I don't find you attractive
(even though I say I am looking for chat, friends, dating)

    Now I am REALLY confused!!!

So what then have I been actually been telling everyone when I state how "Laid Back" I am?

I am beginning to worry that my Straight Acting, Non-Scene Masculine friends may have gotten the wrong idea about me!!!!

Oh well, I am an Open Book anyway. Wanna know more - just ask...

Not everyone has those skills. Some people just suck at writing. As long as they're good looking and have great abs, who cares? You don't get to be MOTD for having good writing skills, and that's what we all aspire to be. icon_lol.gif

    You thought?

    Really?

    When?

    Did it hurt?

Breathing is not a skill. Or a talent. Writing and communicating are.

Ironically breathing properly is a skill the grand majority of people don't possess. Most people are shallow breathers who don't engage their diaphragm. You'd think this is only pertinent to singers or orators but improper breathing affects everyone's daily activities.
