    I needed one more credit hour this semester so I took a body building and sculpting class thinking it would be a joke and an easy A. I just got done with the first actual class period and the instructor who is the strength trainer for the football team had a little circuit planned out for us:

    #1 Pull ups
    #2 Machine rows
    #3 Abdominal machine
    #4 Smith shrugs
    #5 Wrist curls
    #6 Overhead press
    #7 Pulldown rows
    #8 Incline press
    #9 Seated Flys
    #10 Narrow grip bench press (grip over nipples)
    #11 Tricep pulldowns
    #12 Preacher Curls
    #13 Hammer Curls
    #14 Ab rolls
    #15 Squats

    Only one set per exercise but here's the kicker, heavy weight, 12 reps per exercise, 4 second hold reps with only 30 seconds rest in between each exercise. There's only eight of us taking the class, and he treats us like we're part of the football team. Even attempt to slack or call it quits on an exercise and he gets in your face.

    Even after he walked us through the circuit and told us what we would be doing I was like pffft, this is gonna be a joke. 30 minutes later I'm on the floor almost throwing up like a little bitch. Severe over judgement of my ability on this one, perhaps not the easiest A after all. However...

    Circuit training is great and all...but I saw the Smith shrugs and I'm appalled. I hate the Smith machine and no one should be using it. The limited movement on only one plane is such a detriment to your body's natural movement....ugh.

    There are three practicums where we are required to demonstrate movements at the instructor's request, which is the equivalent of exams I suppose. We have to monitor our weight for each exercise and increment up every three weeks, then of course attendance.

    Agreed, I usually don't do shrugs on the smith machine because I don't like the completely linear movement, but I wasn't going to argue with him over it.

    The worst is when I see people doing squats on it... brutal. icon_neutral.gif

    This sounds like HELL on earth to me LOL!!!!!

    PLEASE keep us posted (with pics)!!! Curious to know what gains you make and how you feel after you have completed the course.

    Do you find having a coach "in your face" is in any way helpful? I know I am def NOT the type to respond to that LOL!!

    I'll post before and after pictures at the end of the semester, I'm still doing my normal routine on top of it so in order to make sufficient gains I'm going to have to seriously increase my caloric intake, maybe close to 5,000 calories a day which I'm not sure I'll be able to do with my schedule, but dammit I'm going to try.

    Someone getting in my face does help to an extent because I get pissed off and the anger gives me a little adrenaline rush to bust out the last few reps, but there's definitely a limit to it. By the time I got to squats which are one of the most physically demanding exercises I was completely exhausted and just wanted to collapse in a heap and lay there, no amount of screaming or yelling would make a difference.

    Do you have to do a progress log for this class? Post this if you have time.

    oh yeah, the plan doesn't look half-bad for an athletic adaptation phase either... though 30 sec rest is a bit much... i'd bump it up to 60 sec on the first week, then bring it down to 30 sec by week 3.

    I once took a body sculpting class which was good and all, but one day our instructor couldn't make it and we had this nice substitute lady. She seemed kinda lazy and she decided she'd only make us do 2 things for the entire class, jump rope and different types of ab work.

    Holy fucking shit. An hour of those two at intervals and I almost died.

    But, do you go through the whole list in one session?

    I'm not against hitting it until I can't move. I am aware that after a certain point, I've completely worn myself out and the second half of the hour isn't as effective.

    Aaah I wish my bodybuilding class would've been the same. But nope, it was a real joke.

    And it took me like 4 more years to realize how great having a healthy body and lifestyle could feel... Back then, I passed that class, but I failed at life icon_lol.gif
