Remember it so well - had actually forgot the 30th but recalled it 5, 10, 15, 20 & 25. I was riveted by the news accounts that snowy afternoon in the Philly area. I remember Dan Rather coming on with a special report on CBS. And I remember the two US Park Police chopper airmen choking up talking about the man (later identified as Atlanta banker Arland Williams - the only one to drown) that passed his life ring mulitple times and when he was the last one they came back for him and he was gone. NOT average.

I remember this story and the heroic efforts of those who put their lives on the line to save those passengers. Better deicing systems / chemicals / training of crews, etc. all grew out of this tragedy.
